After seeing Englandâs under 21âs crash out of the European Championships at the weekend, I was waiting for an article such as this. Content is pretty accurate Iâd say in relation to the heart of English players these days and canât really argue with the fact that the money involved in England now is making club football preference. A point that will continue to rumble on until our national team finds successâ¦â¦â¦.so this point will rumble on for an awfully long time! Article below: http://sportales.com/soccer/england-ruined-by-england/
The (sub)standard of coaching is what's destroying English football. From a young age, players are picked on the basis of physicqal size over talent. Then, these players are encouraged to hit the gym and bulk up further, rather than work on technique.
Poor coaching is the problem, not lots of good foreign players. Spain have proved that you can have a strong league without the national team suffering.
UNITED UBER ALLES!Try the smaller clubs fans who might give a little englander toss what the national team do.
I see the under 21's as a tool for promoting young players to the senior side, once they are established there they have no reason to go back.
Since when do Spain have a strong league? They have ONE good team, albeit the best in the world, but there is nothing else beneath them. We are comfortably the 2nd best team in the world. Nevertheless, their national team is not indicative of the strength of their league. Barcelona completely skew that objective because of the quality that they play at. This is not me bigging up the Premier League as the most technically gifted league in the world, but people need to appreciate that the quality of the play that Barcelona produce is perhaps one in a generation. You just need to accept that this current crop of player aren't going to always play pretty possesion football. We have to do what we are best at. Lots of players are technically good enough but it's not what we are best at. We produce players like Welbeck that are great on the ball, but powerful and quick and that's what need we need to make the best out of. Look at Hernandez. Fine, he isn't English, but he isn't the best on the ball so does he drop deep to collect the ball? No, he does what he does by staying on the last man and looking to use his assets- pace and finishing. What's wrong with setting up a team that is powerful in the middle, pace on the wings and looks to get in behind the defence with a high tempo? We need to say, you know what, **** it. **** playing the Barcelona way. **** playing the Spanish way. We are strong, we are quick and we will ram our way past you.
This statement: "It is no coincidence that as the Premier League has grown in stature; the English national side has declined in heart, performance and ultimately, success." Is crap. Look at our WC performances for the five WCs before and after the start of the PL: 1974: DNQ 1978: DNQ 1982: QF (2nd group stage but same diff) 1986: QF 1990: SF 1994: DNQ 1998: 2nd round 2002: QF 2006: QF 2010: 2nd round No noticeable differences there, and in our only decent run in 1990 we were **** in the group stage and needed extra time goals to get past Belgium and Cameroon after being largely outplayed. We reached the semi finals of Euro 96 with a much better set of performances than in 1990 imo. Ultimately the whole "the PL is ruining England" is just a smokescreen for people who refuse to admit that we are a second tier footballing nation at best, and a long way behind the top sides like Germany, Brazil, Argentina and Spain. With very few exceptions (Gazza, Scholes and in the future probably Wilshere) English players never have the technique to compete with the top sides who play organised and technical football from a very young age.
Spain have lots of strong teams, players who have played in both leagues like Torres have said that the lower Spanish teams are better than the lowest prem teams. The reason that Madrid and Barca always dominate is due to the tv deals that make them comfortably richer than everyone else. And you are not comfortably the 2nd best team in the world, I would like to see you come face to face with R. Madrid and see how well you do.
I think the problem is that the FA has no faith in English managers, so they resort to what i think is cheating by employing first a Swede now an Italian to do the most important job in English football, by doing this it has devalued the international game. Personally i'd rather lose with integrity than to win underhandedly that said the millions that has been paid to so called world class managers has achieved nothing apart from making the England job an attractive retirement plan to foreign managers looking for a final pay day.
