Dennis Bergkamp is odds on favorite with skybet, although 2-1 with some others. But he's appeared suddenly from nowhere, and this can only mean one thing, probably. He's going to be our next manager. Could explain why Huw went to Holland. But... Last year he said he didn't see himself becoming a manager. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...amp-enters-running-for-swansea-job_29816.html Are the bookies manipulating the odds maybe? Thoughts? I'm glad it's not Holloway or Jones.
Skybet just suspended betting on Bergkamp. Swan, he is assistant at Ajax was coach of Dutch B team prior to that, so in a word not much
Skysports says... Bergkamp is currently working as assistant coach to Frank de Boer at Ajax and has been on the coaching staff of the Dutch club since April 2008. However, he may take some convincing to take charge at the Liberty Stadium after previous comments stating he did not want to become a manager. Speaking in 2011, he said: "I've never seen myself as a manager. You've got to put all your time into the job and that would be hard for me." http://m.skysports.com/article/football//7796375
Lots of bookies seem to be suspending betting on Bergkamp. It's not made the news yet so they must have tons of money coming in for him. That can only mean that he's our next manager.
I'm not fussed on experience. Iain Dowie has experience. Paul Jewell has experience. Holloway has experience. All have failed in the Premier League. If you want a manager with experience of being successful in the Premier League, you either have to poach off another top flight side, or they probably aren't that interested in coming to Swansea (...yet! Give it another year or so). What's most important to me is getting someone in that will not only keep the same passing philosophies, but also the same training philosophies, and recruitment/budget philosophies. The players have commented how great the training is under Brendan. Enjoyable and high intensity. We need to maintain that. Additionally, after so many years of playing the same style, we can't afford to have any manager come in and change our style (i.e. more direct, more defensive, more hoofing - even if only a little bit more). The players know how we play, they know what they are good at, and if a new manager brings too many new ideas in you will get unrest in the dressing room. What we need is a manager that will continue the good work of those before him. Generally, the 'experienced' managers have their own way of working and have an ego to back it up. Not we need right now. We don't want a manager to just 'keep us up', we want a manager that will keep us up in the same manner that Brendan did, and hopefully even better.
This would be very interesting indeed. Go for it...why not... We are in a good position and can take a risk on this guy
Hmmmm..... Tricky! Fabulous player and immersed in the "total football" concept that slots in perfectly with our own ideals. His only hard management experience started in 2011 under Frank de Boer at Ajax so, in that context, it would be a gamble. If he can impart his knowledge to our players then it would be a great appointment and there is no question that he would gain instant respect from them. Ideally, he would have more coaching experience under his belt but there will be pros and cons about whoever we select. Not my first choice but we could do far, far worse. Intriguing.
Next season is looking good already, as I always knew it would. I wonder if this would persuade Siggy to sign.
Which Welsh journos? Do you have a link? I'm going on the betting, and I'd trust that ahead of journos. But difficult to tell at this stage. He's suddenly favorite but there wasn't any speculation before hand. That usually means someone knows something and lots of money has been bet. You never know for sure with these things though.
Not what I see right now, Casual. He's either odds on or very short odds across the betting board as I write. Laudrup running second and Jones (great!!) starting to drift - unfortunately so is Poyet. Huw in Holland? I wonder if he's going to sneak someone in from left field again? Raymond Verheijen for instance.
Ivor, Huw will always has a trick or two up his sleeves. Still plenty of milage to go in our search for a new man.
Money won't be a problem , Bergkamp is # 500 in the Netherlands version of " Fortune 500 " , managing will be a labor of love IMO . Pretty flippin excited !!
