Evening Liverpool fans (congrats on your win over the Spammers btw :))

Just wondering what your thoughts are on Liverpool/Chelsea?

Don't think the clubs and fans will ever be best of friends but do you see a rivalry there now? I can't say I do, since Benitez left you I just can't bring myself to summon the hatred for you guys I once had, in fact quite the opposite. I quite like Rodgers and admire what he is trying to do there. Give him time and money and he'll win you lot a title I'm sure.

I with Benitez being at Chelsea and Rodgers at Liverpool it's hard for our fans to want each other to fail.

I much prefer you to United's gloryhunters anyway. I can respect your fans to a degree because your just like us, just we support different clubs.

Really hope City win the title and it's us 3rd, Everton 4th and you 5th. I'd give anything to see the top 4 be us, City, Everton and you lot (as long as Rodgers is there).

Much less than it was because we're miles off.

Still don't like you lot though!

Its tough as you have Rafa there though and most want him to get his reputation back that he deserves.

Would prefer you lot to win the title over United if thats a consolation.

    Consider the rivalry on hold.

DL, they're only a few points behind you now, give it a few weeks and you might have rediscovered your "rivalry" which was only ever really based on a handful of CL games. As shallow and empty a football rivalry as the (modern) game has ever witnessed.

Don't agree. The rivalry for me stems back to that FA Cup game where they came from behind and beat us 3-2.

I also remember them trouncing us 4-0 which hurt.

It got taken up a few notches though as while we were in similar places in the League until they got bought out.

All of sudden they were top dog because of the money whilst we stagnated and they pointed the figure at us and mocked!

We managed to get things together and that ended up in us clashing. Old club against new age football. We played them all the time for a while as both were very good at dealing with cup games.

Also the Benitez vs Mourinho feud too.

    There you go.

Its more Chelsea fans trying to create a rivalry while Liverpool fans think they are stupid ****s <ok>

Booing the minute's silence at Wembley being an example of how stupid as a fanbase they are.

Used to hate Chelsea back around 2004=2008.

Now that they have Benitez and Torres i certainly want them to do better then United or City.

i think there is a rivalry/relationship between the clubs which goes back to the summer of 2004 when you got a new manager in Jose and we got Rafa. Over that one season they changed the face of British football with Jose winning the Prem first season and Rafa the champions league.

We obviously had alot of famous games that season, including a dicking for us in the league (4-0) and a win for you in the Carling cup.

Then there is the matter of Chelsea going after our players......with some success....Gerrard, Torres etc

Then Liverpool ending Chelseas ridiculously long unbeaten home run, (thank you Xabi)

I think in recent seasons it has dies off slightly due to us having bigger fish to fry. (avoiding administration and trying to find some stability.)

But I think it will return

Its not a geographis or historical fans rivalry, but it is a rivalry based upon great encounters over the last few years.

I think if you look back from now to 2004, we have probably played Chelsea far more than any other Britsh team. And alot of these have either been in cup finals or the later stages of cups.

Chelsea fans used to be my least favorite team in London, but that award now goes to Spurs, due to the twatishness and delusions of grandeur constantly spouted by their fans.

As others have noted and I will agree.

    Geographically there is no rivalry.
    Historically there is no rivalry.
In the current table there is no positional rivalry.
We've never been the two favourites fighting each other for the title.

I think mourinho is the only reason there was a rivalry at all. He seemed to feel particular animosity towards Liverpool (and Benitez) which rubbed off on both sets of fans.

Even when Jose still ruled the roost I remember saying on 606 forum, I don't hate Chelsea I hate mourinho.

Same is still true today. I see Chelsea as neither good nor bad... you're a London team which counts against you though ;-)

Don't like Roman mind you. :)

That's a crock of ****e Drogs <ok> It just so happens a lot of us grew up with a team that had massive success but every football fan still grows up experiencing painful defeats even if you support the teams who are winning all the time. I remember ripping Luton Town out of my Panini sticker book after they knocked us out of the FA Cup one year <laugh>

What's always got on my tits with your lot over the last decade has been the shady money used to buy success. Maureen I couldn't have cared for either way.

Celebrating the buying of leagues and cups with some nasty, KGB connected mafia mans cash was about as classless a thing as I can imagine. Swallowing the line that this made Chelsea into a "big" club has always just made me laugh. Sacking a fella who was Chelsea to the core after winning Big Ears is a touch of karma for the fans who have so far let Roman do what he wants with their "beloved" club. Hearing Chelsea fans say "we'll never support Rafa even if he wins us title after title" is just the cherry on the cake for me (who the hell are they trying to kid <laugh>).

Ps...I was working on The Kings Road last week (and Fulham Road) and the area isn't exactly a hotbed of football by the looks of it <whistle>

Chelsea are like a self-limiting disease. Nasty whilst it's running rampant but an almost total irrelevance when you have developed the appropriate anti-bodies.

Chelsea only claim a rivalry with us, because any rivalries they do have only began 10 years ago. During their 10 year history, it just happens to be us which confronted them during a lot of matches.

It was quite a polite OP, the reaction to the thread has not been good. Does this mean that there is a rivalry and that we are just not aware of it or has the OP just created a new rivalry started by his polite post?

I don't know and only time will tell but remember this thread as it may well be the starting point of a bitter rivalry that lasts many years. <ok>
