As a lad, I remember the build up to derby day..The banter, the passion, families divided by red and blue..All good natured, and I remember my gran (a blue) wouldn't talk to my grandad for at least a week ( a red) if Liverpool won ( He always said he prayed to god for months, that Liverpool would win, and always thanked the big man when they did!!) The build up, the banter and to a degree the passion seems to have lost something in recent years..why? Is it because the likes of United, Chelsea and Arsenal mean more than beating the mob across the park.
I still love this fixture but I don't live in Liverpool, I think the people who live in the city are best qualified for this one.
I think the financial gap and success between the two clubs has changed the attitude of rivalry amongst the fans. The BS tend to have more of a 'small club mentality' towards us these days. The blues in my family say the banter isn't the same as it was in the 80s when the clubs were far more similar in terms of quality. On the pitch and match day though it is still a very heated rivalry, 10 red cards in the last 13 games against them backs that up.
