We're starting to see the usual turnover of managers who have not met the criteria for their continued employment in every division. This brings up the question as to who is to blame for this annual mayhem that probably, in hindsight, doesn't necessarily meet the expected results. Just look at us as a prime example of the point I'm trying to get acroos in that most of us screamed for the heads of Johnson and Millen due to the lack of positive results and for various other reasons. We used the phrases such as "lost the dressing room" and "poor team selection" as the reasons why they should be sent packing to pastures new. Yet at the same time we were all smart enough to understand that they were battling against the incoming tide called player power and were being dragged under by the very people who are hired to make their job easier by providing good quality footballers. All managers are hired to be fired and, although it's one of the oldest catchphrases in the handbook, I think a lot of us sympathise with the many beleaguered men who are facing the next few weeks of the season wondering if they too will face the axe. Is Derek McInnes on the list of people about to face the cold realities of managing south of the border in a second tier league that is probably the best in a world where, unlike the Scottish Premier, about 10 serious competitors are coming at you every week determined to beat you and unless you have all your ducks in a row then you will be eaten for breakfast. That is exactly where we are at today, a team that seemingly never learns from the past and crawls to the future with very little commitment and organisation. Somewhat harsh words you may say but just look back at our less than stellar history and tell me I'm wrong (please) because right now I think a lot of us are on the same page not knowing what comes next especially when it comes to our new manager. Look back over the last 5 years on the number of managers who did not deserve to be fired but got their marching orders solely based on the players lack of commitment and results. I hope Derek doesn't become one of the forgotten statistics, when the shoulder of responsibilty rests on the player's backs and until they all get on board I think our manager will be walking a thin red line. Does he deserve this unwanted spotlight (probably not!) and can he handle it (hopefully so!). Come on City we all deserve better than this and more importantly so does your boss Derek.
Would be interested to know who people want as their manager, saying we get rid of Del pay his and docs contract up. Could we afford another manager that is in work at the moment I doubt that many would want to leave their job if they are doing well to manage us. So then we look at the out of work managers. Mick McCarthy probably want to rebuild the team completely hence a lot of favourites go, also turned forest down do you think he would want to come to us? Billy Davies, probably do a job keeping us up then next year the same as Del so we get rid of him. Paul Jewel, see Ipswich Roy Keane, see above and I mean all the above options. Alex McLeish would he want us? Owen Coyle, could not stop Bolton with all their stars, so could he make ours perform. Steve Cotterill. Nearly took Florist down but hung on bit like us already. Steve Keane. Enough said Or do we keep what we have save the money sell Adomah and say to Del go and find your RCB your midfield general and see out the long term plan. You could probably name some more. You see it's not just me being stubborn its looking at the overall picture. We might not agree with Del's choices, (we dont even agree with each other) we might think he's lost the plot but at the end of the day he wants what we want success.
Lots of different scenarios here ROD and just look at the names you have listed and you will see people that a lot of teams would love as their manager. We went for a lesser name and perhaps the Coppell debacle left a bad taste in our mouths that projected outward at anybody lining up to move to Ashton Gate. So, is there someone out there who could manage our club any better that at present - probably yes there is, but given the known records of these so called experienced managers and their propensity for spending money they don't have it questions whether that well travelled road is the way to go. Do we have the makings of a well rounded club when the points gathered this season says the absolute opposite, well only time will tell I suppose? Your points are well recieved ROD and it makes me wonder how long it will be before the disgruntled (rightly so!) people bring the usual concerns out in to the public forum that generally leads to some action by management. A season of non-discontent would have been nice but the footballing gods have dictated otherwise so let's move on and hope that Derek can turn our fortunes around soon before the inevitable (whatever you wish to add) happens.
Why are we even talking about changing our manager ? Del is shaping his own team and it's not finished yet. Until it is and he's had a chance, do we even want to be discussing yet more potential upheaval and yet more new players coming in ? I admit I wanted Millen out badly, but chopping and changing every year is not the answer in my book, especially with the injury situation at the club.
My list was not me naming people I want, I was illustrating that I would stay with what we have and see the job through. I have asked time and time again for anti Del supporters to name someone and no one will. So I gave them a list of people to choose from. I supported Del to me he is young and trying to get the best out of what we have. If he keeps the same players people moan he has favourites. If he makes changes he's constantly tinkering. The way I see it we could have Ferguson, Wenger or Dalgleish and they still won't agree with the managers decisions. Having that poll and COR threads has only proved to me, The Gasheads don't like him so are they scared that we have something. Why else would they want us to sack him? If I voted on theirs it would be McGhoo is doing a great job keeping them in the bottom of bottom league. But some look at the votes not who voted.
