Can't make my mind up whether the championship is full of similar average teams or poor ones. We've done nothing almost over the past eight games and yet were within touching distance of the play offs. What the hell are the others all at? Hard to believe were three off fifth place. Last season was very much the same
It's just a case of everyone beating everyone. Just because we're still in touching distance of the playoffs, it doesn't mean everyone above us is terrible, it just means nobody can put a run together because the teams are all so similar in quality and cancel each other out. It's a half full/half empty argument. You can say all the teams are similarly good, or similarly bad.
Its because any team can beat anyone, and every single game the team needs to put a lot of hard work into winning it. This league is so competitive. Thats what kinda irritates me somewhat about some fans on here, talking about how we should smash Yeovil and it was the same last week against Hudders but both of those teams have beaten better teams than us and nothing is a given in this league.
I wouldn't say there's a bad team in the Championship or there all rubbish. Like Josh says in a very competitive league and has been for a good 4 years now. Unlike the Prem there isn't that Gulf in class from top to bottom. Anyone can beat anyone on the day and it does make the league more exciting. Again it's been like that for 4 or more years. Look at Wolves and Blackburn nobody expected them to have terrible season last time but just look where they finished.
At the moment it looks like a 3 horse race for the top 2 spots after that well its anybodies guess the bigger squads will some out best eventually .
Wigan look nicely tucked in there behind us but with a game in hand. Don't be surprised to see them put a run together when the Europa League breaks.
Since our home defeat to Burnley, we haven't played against a team in the top 10 - Six consecutive games against teams outside the top 10 where out of a possible 18 points we have taken 9 Yeovil have won two league games all season, Forest and Millwall - The Forest game was a fluke, Forest had 63% possession and 27 shots at goal. You are always going to get a lucky win here and there, at the end of the season the table doesn't lie, Yeovil will be bottom. The Huddersfield game people on here said we would win because of our previous 4-0 win against Birmingham
That's right we are 3 pts off the top 6 on merit.yet reading your posts you would think we were bottom.
Simple ... teams on the Championship have a massive carrot to play for, the riches of the Prem ... players know their wages increase dramatically if they get promotion ... the play offs mean teams have a fighting chance every season regardless of the club ... teams play to win, knowing a little run and they're right up there ... games are more open, which brings mistakes and goals ... it is a tough league mentally because every game is a battle, there are no typical Prem roll over and die matches like Norwich or Fulham yesterday (Jol said in his interview it wasn't such a bad result losing 3-1 at home because nobody realistically expected them to win) ... every season a club appears from nowhere to get into the play offs, and this means at least 16 teams still believe in a promotion shot ten games out ... there is a lot of quality in the Championship, but not great management which leads to leaky defences and open play ... Leeds have the quality, its now about adding some consistency, for example win three, lose one, win three, lose one and you get promotion ... add to this the prestige of beating Leeds and our club has an even harder task than the others, Cup Finals every week that our players need to be up for ... this is a very exciting and unpredictable league, long may it continue that way
This is a forum of opinions, I am glad that you are optimistic and consider us to be in a good position. As far as I can see it we have played a few lesser teams and we have took 50% of the possible points on offer. Not bad should have done better IF we wish to be a top 6 - I have always seen us as a mid table team who will end up around 10th - I don't see why as a fan I should keep accepting that we are an average team, I want to see us challenging for promotion, please tell me what season or how far ahead we must go before you lose patience and demand more?
Our league position currently flatters us. However any team could go on a run and win 10 from 12 (including us), if any do they will end up in the play offs at least. For me only top and bottom are certain. QPRhaha will win the league by 10 points. Yeovil will be relegated by 10. There are a number of clubs that could easily lose 10 from 12 and get themselves relegated ( you know who they are)!
I'm going to throw little hand grenade in here, regarding players all trying to get into the prem etc. I think maybe there are some smart players in championship sides, who know they will not be getting a new contract with more money if they get promoted. They know that 85% of the squad will be broke up and new players will be brought in and its these players who will benefit not the ones who did the work. Fact of life is that there are few championship players who will make it in the prem. Facts show that most promoted sides are relegated .... So I think there will be some players in all the top championship sides who think fook it I want to stay here, why should I be sacked for doing a good job and end up on lesser wages when some twat who did nothing comes in and picks up huge wages in my place????
It's interesting the wallies seem to think they're having a great season and they're three points off relegation. Glad we're not as successful as them
But no game is a given I don't think players think like that. Players believe in there own ability especially as professionals and believe they can play in the prem
I think we've all got to remember that the season has two halves. It's hammer & tongs in the first half when most of the teams are able to put out their best teams (or close to it). Second half of the season is all about the depth of quality in the squads. When injuries & suspensions start biting, it becomes much clearer who has a chance of what. Same every season! Sadly, if we don't improve our squad in January, I think we'll be travelling south.
If you went last season and this,I think we have a better team, more potential, younger and a team that will get better.Qpr have spent massive and are 3rd,Wigan,Blackburn,Forest,Leicester have all spent big in recent seasons, there's no easy overnight success but at least without Bates I think we are going forward.Unless we get £10 million or so soon (not going to happen)we have no choice but to go with the slow build. we've played 4 out of the top 5,and 3 of the bottom 5,so I don't think we are in a false position.
I wouldn't say it was rubbish, more it's full of teams that are of similar ability and strength (more or less). It's making it a very tightly-knit League where anything can happen, anybody can beat anybody and the more consistent are the successful sides rather than the stronger sides dominating. Although I can't comment on it this Season for obvious reasons.
