Is Sir Alex Ferguson just a one in a million manager?

I know a lot of people hate Man Utd, but you have to hand it to them, they've done remarkably well considering the circumstances.

Despite having an injury list which now stands at 12 players compared to Man City's 2, and despite receiving that thrashing by Man City which gave them a 3 point advantage and a hefty goal difference blow, they currently sit level on points with Man City and leave the title race far from over. This is despite Man City spending a god damn fortune and having a squad depth wider than HMT's anus.

It must be Sir Alex Ferguson, or something, which enables them to do this, because I honestly couldn't see Man City being in the position they are in now if they had 12 injured players.

So what do you think? Is it down to him? Is he just that ****ing good as a manager? He honestly seems to have turned Man Utd into the Terminator of football teams. Nothing, just nothing, stops them.

    Lmao.

He is amazing, but City do seem to be doing that mid-season implosion they seem fond of. I'd put it down as much to that and Mancini's comparatively lesser motivational skills - but you have to hand it to him he is brilliant.

Fergie may be an absolute prick at times and get away with murder as the FA are scared of him, but i dont think anyone will repeat what he has done, i mean even with his worst squad in a while hes still grinding out results and winning when it matters, have to say credit where its due.

But, yeah. I think Fergie has proved his salt, just waiting for him to retire now and for something to go hrribly wrong with City

He's a great manager but over the last few years I think that it's his cheque book that has been winning him the league ...

The only difference is that 3/4 of your buys turn out to be real quality ...

This is who they've bought over the past few years:

    11/12:

    Jones
    De Gea
    Young

    10/11:

    Smalling
    Hernandez
    Bebe
    Lindegaard

    09/10:

    Valencia
    Owen
    Obertan
    Diouf

    08/09:

    Berbatov
    Tosic
    De Laet

    07/08:

    Manucho
    Tevez
    Nani
    Kuszczak
    Anderson
    Hargreaves
    Fabio
    Rafael
    Possebon

    06/07:

    Carrick

Now you have to wonder just how many of those players Man Utd has really relied on to win the titles, despite the large sums spent. You also have to look at how many of those (who are still at Man Utd) are currently injured, despite Man Utd still plodding along keeping up the pace with Man City.

Chappaz, why multi-post this to entertain a few cockneys and ex-pats?

I was just going to keep it to the Newcastle board but then I realised I may as well split it as it's about them.

Plus, some mags might disagree with me, leaving the Man Utd fans to step in and for everyone to create a big argument which I can enjoy from afar.

One of the true greats of football management, although people will constantly seek to devalue his achievements mostly due to what a colossally unlikeable prick the man is.

He only acts like a prick to the media (who ****ing deserve it). Away from the camera people talk about what a great man he is, offering advice and help to others.

He's done well, but please dont foget in your factoring.
Big chequebook when needed, got what he want gets what he wants.
20 years at the same club - consistency, things the way he likes them at the club a long time now
Unrivalled group of youngsters to arrive together to kick off the success.
Large chunks of 'luck' now and then.

Add to that excellent man management, decent tactical nous and an extremely competitive nature. One of Britains best but he has had his advantages thats also true
