Advocaat wasn't the one for a scrap, he galvanised a squad low on morale, that was all he did, tactically he was weak and he left with his credit in tact, a good move imo.
Good question. Seems like the reason he left was because he realised himself it wasn`t going to happen. Sams knowledge and experience of the prem is a big plus like. Keeping it simple where they all know their jobs and a bollicking if they don`t do it. That`s something they can understand.
If you look at the teams they've managed and trophies they've won, there' no way Sam is better than Dick. But I think Sam is probably the more appropriate manager for us at this time. Advocaat was good at chasing titles, cups, etc. That was his scene. He wanted to build his teams round M'Vila and that type. He wasn't used to scrapping in relegation battles, didn't like it, and moved over in time to buy us breathing space. I think Sam will do a better job at our present level. But I haven't a bad word for either of them.
Sam took DA's team and has them playing English football. In DA's reign this season we came close to good wins, especially WHU, but errors scuppered that. Different styles different mind set same players says it all.
But Dick managed ready made clubs every time - it's not difficult to manage a top side to a trophy - it is difficult to manage an average/poor side and make them better. IMO Sam is better at that - it'd be interesting to see how Sam would do at a "ready made" club and that's the only way you could ever really tell - You'd expect most managers to win trophies with PSV, Rangers, Zenit - but managing better sides doesn't make him a better manager - The Netherlands won nothing - still! he managed them to nothing and they were one of the best footballing sides I've seen
It's all been said but Sam saw what was needed and has gone about sorting it. Dick saw we were deficient and decided he couldn't sort it. Sam's the better manager.
He seems to be more tactically minded than DA for sure, strikes me like a bloke who doesn't take any **** and has a definite idea what he wants from his teams. I didn't want him to be honest, but now that he's here he's definitely made progress and i think we're in good hands. To be fair, I've been away for every game apart from the derby, so haven't seen that much of us live, only snippets on TV.
Lets just hope the progress continues mate, i think we're in good hands and i'm looking forward to January for once.
