Jose seems very keen on Rooney, which probably suprises a few of us, including me. Given his love of Drogba types playing one up front, can't see how Rooney is going to fit in. In fact, to me Rooney looks a better player when he's in behind the striker, yet we seem to have heaps of those type of players, and seriously good ones at that. Care to guess what Jose has in mind for Rooney, cause I can't quite work it out !! Not for a mo suggesting he's not a great player, just can't see where he will fit in.
He'll be a striker. He bangs them in, links up well with other other players and puts a shift in defensively, pretty much all I'm looking for!
Posted this in the transfer thread too. Got a bad feeling we could seriously end up with fatboy who in my opinion is the wrong age for that type of investment. Drinks, smokes, and has a destructive will, has trouble with training and his weight. Never holds his form over any great period of time, struggles for fitness then becomes belligerent, Sounds like being near the Kings Road without the scathing Jock constantly keeping him in check seems appealing to him.
Pretty much all we're all looking for Drogs. Given he's hardly a giant like your namesake, do you think that means we will not play 1 up front?? Wouldn't mind seeing 4 3 3 myself.
You could be right Robby but Rooney doesn't strike me as the sort of player who would flop under pressure. I think a new challenge could give him some fire in his belly and a new desire. I think so. I think Rooney is one of the most versatile players around and can adapt anywhere he plays. I think we'll contain the same formation as last season with Rooney leading the bunch, him dropping deep at times may be a bonus. Look at the goals he's scored for United whilst playing as a striker and from midfield.
Rooney at his best was playing up front on his own for United around 2010-11. I expect this is where he'd mostly play for us.
Agree. I do think however that if he hands in a transfer request, we should be going no higher than £35m. Hopefully one of Torres/Ba are gone too.
I'm in favour of Rooney definitely. He would complete an already potent attack force. Ship out Ba and that's a premier league worthy squad.
35m seems about right given his age, 2 years left on contract, form etc. I'd rather keep Torres than Ba but Torres would be worth more and costs us a lot more in wages admittedly.
I agree but thinking about it his shirt sales must recoup a fair bit . Torres is a different option too. Like I said I'm not fussed which one stays tbh.
It's funny going back and reading what people were saying about Ba when he signed. Even funnier after his first few games and he'd scored 2.
