The player has had quite a few first team chances now. My verdict on him, having watched most of them: Positives- good athlete. Good engine. Decent in the air. Negatives - poor positionally. Terrible touch. Bad crosser. Useless passer of the ball. Must have given away possession a dozen times v Blackpool. Better teams with better strikers will find Fox out. Will he make the Championship grade? I think not.
This run of games could well be the last time we'll see him. When Wiggins is fit he'll walk back into the team, and by next season Holmes-Dennis will have overtaken him, with Edwards coming up on the rails. Fox's problem is that he's slow on the turn, and can't risk getting too tight on a player in case he gets skinned. At the moment he looks like a L1 player, but he seems to work hard on his game and he may surprise us in the future, although that future probably won't be with us due to the two youngsters I mentioned.
Seen him a few times not over impressed TBH, a few others who have come through the ranks have made more of a impact than him , seems a little to lightweight
So how do you rate Fox compared to the other two ? Agree that he looks League One standard at best (& we have seen enough of them !)
I really rate them, and they can both play LB and LM. In the case of Edwards I'm prepared to stick my neck out and say he could be our best LB since SCP, and I think Holmes-Dennis's best position is in midfield because of his energy and workrate. Dream Team of the future? I hope so!
Whilst I must defer to the judgments of those above this is what someone told me about FOX on Saturday. He is a much better player than we are seeing. He is suffering badly from nerves and is not responding well to the role he is being asked to play. He can cross and pass and this is his strength but his game is based on quick feet football and is not really used to the more sedate style under BP. - someone else's view not mine. But I think he would benefit from a loan move.
So Waggy is not the only one with a mum? Bit of a pointless thread really. All that matters is that he is the best we have got until: (1) Wiggins is fit or (2) Holmes-Dennis comes back from Oxford, hopefully ready to make the step up or (3) Our Belgian Fuehrer brings Ashley Cole back from Roma
It's Ashley Cole that has not got a father.... I am afraid to admit that I got Carl Jenkinson wrong. I thought he wouldn't make it at Charlton let alone Arsenal (west ham) So I think I need to exercise some caution with Fox but he really needs that one big game and as yet its not happened for him
What is this site for, if not to discuss Charlton players ? Given Wiggins fitness records in recent seasons, Fox could be getting 30-40 games this season. He needs to step up a gear, assuming he can.
He's very ponderous on the ball, which kills the momentum we have when we try and attack down the left. Ponderousness wouldn't be so bad if his passing and crossing were up to scratch, but it isn't. He's not an awful player by any means, but he'll never be anything more than solid, unremarkable back-up at this level.
Ipswich Town are planning to sign Morgan Fox in January to replace Tyrone Mings, who is reported to be on the way to Arsenal. Morgan - my car keys are at your disposal fella
Yeah, can't see that being true. Especially if they sell mings it will be near £10million for them to play around with.
Hope he comes good, but to date I'd have to say he's not getting any better, which is what you'd want from a run in the side.
