In my opinion Hughes totally got it wrong in these opening 2 games. He should have played 4-4-2 against swansea to try hold possesion up field and not let their defenders have all the time in the world and he should have gone 4-5-1 today to expose the width and counter norwich in the channels. After leaving Carrow road i feel now even more so that Hughes is not a very good manager, for us at least anyway. If Dawson has been our main target all along and we were waiting for him to be available then im sure if he was that important to the master plan all the stops would have been pulled out for him to agree terms. If Green wasnt meant to be number 1 then why not pusue the main target earlier! For all their denials, its plain to see it is panic buying. Thats to be expected after witnessing the first two results. I think defending is hughes weakest point and we will struggle in a relagation scrap until it is solved. Im sure i will get the usual responses about trying to stay positive and its only the second game etc but its the lack of performance and tactics that has me worried whether it be beginning, middle or end of the season. I wonder if they will give him longer than warnock got , remember, 'we will never be in this position again while im here'.................................
I think that the theory is that, despite differences of position, Taarabt is more attacking than the comparatively industrious Zamora. Attack at home and defend away. Not sure I want to start an argument with a professional coach though....
You are right Bob, but I'm hoping MH can get it right. It HAS been only two games so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt for at least a couple of months. By then we should have a settled squad and have some idea of what Hughes is trying to do!!
No matt....tactically Hughes got it very wrong and as Bob says, you could swap the two starting teams for the two games and it would have been a lot nearer the mark!
We have to see progression, green, fabio, bosingwa, onohua, diakite, nelson, park, hoilett , zamora , cisse, aj , that's a full team Hughes has bought and he has bought them to fit his style of play. How long do we give players time to gel, 2 matches, 10 , 38?? These are professional players for Christ's sake, coached for many years, if they can't string 3 or 4 passes together then one must think there is something else amiss. I would think its harder to gel when you play fabio in central midfield in a friendly when you expect him to play full back. Yes pre season has many reasons but the main reason when you have eleven or so new players is to get them used to each other! I hope Hughes gets it right but to use a campaign to do this is naieve to say the least!!
Oh now Bob....come on!! You know better than that mate. We stayed up because we got enough points over the entire season, NOT just because of the Stoke result. Winning our last 5 games at home also played a huge part!!
