It's a big ask, admits Lansdown. please log in to view this image Managing director on the task ahead. Jon Lansdown admits it’s a “big ask” for City to remain in the npower Championship from here on in. But the City managing director insists whatever the outcome of the 2012/13 season, the club will not be veer from their strategy and vision set out to ensure a better future. Defeat at Derby County was followed up with a 1-1 draw at home to relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday on home soil yesterday, leaving the team seven points from safety – with the majority of their rivals boasting a game in hand. Speaking on BBC Radio Bristol, Lansdown said: “We’re disappointed not to have won the game against Sheffield Wednesday yesterday. “Over the balance of the game, we certainly had plenty of chances to win it, but in the end we’ve come away with only a point. “Of course it’s not over but the table doesn’t lie; it doesn’t look pretty. “We never spoke about the game being ‘make or break’. We can technically still stay up, but it's a big ask and we need promotion form. “We probably need four wins from the last six games; it's a big ask.” Asked if City were already preparing for the drop, Lansdown insisted: “We're prepared for every outcome. “At the start of the season you prepare, you budget for every eventuality, whether that’s promotion, staying the division or relegation. “We've gone through a lot of changes in the last 12 months to put the club in a stronger position for the future. “We've had unsustainable losses in recent years and that can't continue. “We recognise the club needs better foundations for the future so if there is a blip in the road, we can come back stronger. “Do we want to prepare for relegation, no, of course we don't.” And the managing director also made clear the impending threat of relegation will not alter desires to move to Ashton Vale or redevelop Ashton Gate. “You plan three, four years out,” he added. “That won't change at all. “Facilities is one of the key pillars with which we want to build the club - the stadium is central to that.” Sounds very controlled to me, cut the losses, come back stronger, planning 3,4 years out and the stadium is central to all of it but which one.......? Yes, I reckon he is preparing us for the drop...
We're down. Its more than a big ask, Its impossible. All we can hope for now is we don't finish bottom.
When I said to you all Wales will win the 6 nations after losing the first game you all thought I was mad, and saying there is no way they could do it. When I looked at the Ryder cup final day I was thinking not a gnats bollocks chance of a Europe win. Can we win 4 games out of the six Burnley = Yes Bolton = Yes now with 2 of their players suspended Birmingham = Yes you never know what Birmingham team will turn up Hull = Yes but probably won't but even they are getting jittery Huddlesfield = Yes Charlton = Yes We can do it, at the moment nothing is impossible but the others winning could be the thing that sends us down.
You must have been snorting a good few lines of charlie this evening But seriously, I had a conversation with Lan the other week where I basically said going down will do you more good than bad. If you can keep a core of your best players you'll more than likely bounce straight back up. A promotion chase in League 1 has to be more apealing than a relegation battle where you are at the moment.
I have never been so offended I agree going down could be a blessing in disguise, be **** for a bit but challenging for the play offs etc will bring the crowds back not like yesterday but will be higher than it is now IMO. I was merely pointing out to Shiny that you can't always give up and should keep trying till the end is confirmed in Football and everything else.
Football is like life; if you give up looking forward you will only stagnate and even if the body stays alive, the brain will not function as well as it should. So relegation for City, like death for all of us, seems likely at the moment. But don't see the former as inevitable even though it will probably happen. Just like more mature people who prepare for the funeral costs, City fans should at least brace themselves for the dreaded drop while still hoping for an unexpected change in our fortunes.
I'll always back city rod. Ill support them like they were top of the league but there something's we have to realise, we are going down. We have to finish the season 8 points better off than 4 or 5 teams. It wont happen.
It's not an impossible task but the fact of the matter is we deserve to be relegated. Over the course of the season we have been miserable and whilst most of this can be attributed to McInnes, our away form under SOD has also been relegation caliber. Granted, home form has been pretty good but as a whole this season has been depressing. League 1 is where we belong right now. I hope we clear out the dross and invest in youth and come back stronger.
You secure your future by taking care of the present and if young Lansdown is not aware of that then he shouldn't be in the job. City have had 4 years to secure their future but decided to spend vast amounts of Steve's money to achieve relegation and pardon my skepticism but I call that a lousy business plan, by anyone's definition. Everyone sat back and rested on their laurels after promotion and look where that inattention to the cold hard facts leaves us. In the wilderness without a clue where to go next and if we get the same kind of management that got us here then stand back and light the blue touch paper.
It just looks as if he is managing everyones expectations making a statement that will not make him look silly whatever the outcome. COR
We won't survive and the owner and his directors/associates are entirely to blame Yes we know that the players haven't covered themselves in glory Yes, with hindsight Del should have gone earlier but the buck stops with SL and now with Junior Lansdown too. They are guilty of gross, gross, gross, mis management of the football club from top to bottom
SHINY Impossible is we have 18 points to play for but the the cut off is 19 or the cut off is 18 points and better by 1 a goal difference to the highest placed we aint there yet....but... its easy to roll a barrel down a hill, but depending on how steep harder if not impossible to roll it up
