As discussed by VitalNorwich, his team strengthening seems to suggest a return to the Championship, but with a squad who will mostly stay together and help a concerted and long term push for the Prem the following season. I'm not sure I agree with their viewpoint, but our recent signings have little or no Prem experience, so is this all part of McNally's seven year masterplan ? http://www.norwich.vitalfootball.co.uk/sitepage.asp?a=245657
Firstly, we have to be realistic here, There is a far greater likelyhood that we will be in a relegation scrap next year than there is of us cruising into a mid-table slot. And so a little prudence should be the order of the day. BUT, Lambert has not yet finnished with transfers, there will be more and maybe they will make the 'building for the championship' argument defunct. I prefer to think that actually, it is simply the way Lambert works. He takes players he has seen regularly and takes them up a league. They tend to perform for him because they want to prove they are good enough. Also, I like to see it as us having learned from mistakes made in the past. Last time we went up we made some 'big name' signings who as it turned out couldn't give a flying one about proving their ability and were just here for a year long payday. Helveg, Jonsson, Bentley etc. They were not hungry to prove they were good enough. In their minds they had already done it. Our best players last time all had very limited experience of the Premier League at the start of the season (with the exception of Hucks).
To a outsider looking in, it does look like we are assuming we will be relegated and if we stay up it will be a bonus. Personally, I think its a bit of both. Lambert has got players in who he thinks can do a job in the Premier League, however, he has one eye on getting relegated and knows if he can keep the squad together, we will be a major force back in the Championship.
I can't wait to see how this team performs! The greatest criticism of the last season in the prem was that we cut the heart out of our team. We've added wisely without ringing drastic changes, that's just the thing in my book. The Premier league is not a magical place, they just play football. It's bette football but we've Earnt the right to be there so bring it on I say, no looking back.
I think PL has shown over the last two seasons he knows what he is doing. I agree , it is likely we will be sitting in the bottom half of the Premiership at the end of the season but i have a strong belief that PL will keep us up. I look at this as a glass half full situation, we are in the Premiership, we have a good squad, who are fighters, lets enjoy it. I know many people think and want us to come straight down, i think we will beat the drop P.S Barry Fry...............you are full of S..T
I am more than happy with our signings so far, lambert is a genius and makes a business of unearthing talent. If we went in hard signing players for 5 or 10mil i would be worried that if we do go down we will be stuck with huge wage bills and players wanting to jump ship. Realistically the best we could do is a west brom/Stoke type blueprint. WE nearly went bust a few years back, the future of our club is way more important than a few superstar signings...........
Dont worry JWM i m sure you will blow the cash Sunderland paid you on 30 something knackered ex Wigan players.
Anyway, Ips..t won't be getting 13 million, more like 8/9. (because of money owed) Marcus Evans will keep 8, that leaves them 1 million to spend before they drop into league 1 Does that mean the binners will be preparing for relagation????????????????
Sunderland have done very well out of Ipswich so i wouldn t be surprised if they make a killing from CW they only just flogged Bent for a massive profit, another one of your old players...
Mexican Why all the agression?????????????????????????????????????????????????? Has someone just pissed in your chilli??????????????????????????
Was'nt being aggressive, just pointing out something, you lot have stated yourselves. You won't get the money, Evans will keep it. Your league will be very tough next year (no hope of top 6 finish for you binners) and your team are **** . So never mind about us. maybe you have to worry about your own relegation PS JWM............... you think it's ok to be insulting to other people and their teams, when someone does it to you they are being aggressive. No aggressive is when i you get a punch in the mouth for beind a ****er!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry Dave , too much Carribean sun and Tequila Oh no it's not, just love to see the binners wallow in the own misery!!!!!! You should see the posts on their forum ''Priceless'' : )
Maybe i can bring Tequila on my next visit to WymondhamIt must ne Norfolk Show time, I'm sure you can find a stand there with some tequila, or something equally as strong.
Until the WUM arrived there were a lot of sensible comments being made. Of course we are going to be involved in a relegation battle - anybody who thinks otherwise is living in cloud cuckoo land! As I have mentioned before on this site and the old 606 our original business plan agreed by the Board and supported by PL included allowance for an instant return to the Championship followed by promotion again and consolidation in the Premiership with a new stand and financial stability. It is financial stability which is the most important and having had a near miss with administration a couple of years ago it is quite clear that Delia and the Board will never allow that to happen again even if investment in the squad is restricted. Quite clearly we will not be signing players with Premiership experience on 4 year contracts earning £40k a week but it also means that the total wage bill will have to be controlled. It is quite clear from the Smith situation that the players are now on considerably increased wages and it is quite likely that with the increased wages and other items such as pension payments, National Insurance etc somebody like Smith would cost the club approaching £500k a year. We could not afford to pay that sort of money for a player to just turn up and train so I suspect that any player on the books on the applicable date will be in the squad. Unless my maths are wrong we already have 25 or 26 over 21 players on the books so before PL can consider buying further players he might have to be certain that 1 or 2 at least are on the way out which may be easier said than done as illustrated by the comments made by Aberdeen about Smith. It is likely that all of the players that we supporters want to sell would only appeal to league 1 and 2 clubs who will not be able to afford the wages either to buy or loan the player. We might live in the fantasy world and hope that the lure of regular games at another club might persuade them to leave but in the real world how many players, or players wives, when faced with the choice of turning up a few times a week to train and having the rest of the week off on Premiership wages or, alternatively, moving from Norfolk to,say, Bradford on a quarter of the wages are going to choose the latter. In that senario PL might be forced to sell a player he would rather keep before he can buy again. I think we need to keep a very close eye on the 'outs' before we can consider any more 'ins'
Me a WUM! I have you know that I am an honoury member of the Budgie forum and if you don't believe me ask Dave and CS! ps Mexico you obviously don't know irony when it smacks you in the mouth!
