Ever since Simon's injury in 2009 we have mostly struggled in defence under Stimmo, Hess x 2 and Taylor x 1
the exception being the promotion season under MA. If SK had stayed fit would he have kept us up 09/10?
Would we have eventually sold him for a handsome profit?
The reports I am reading about young JE suggest that he is a future Capt and someone we should build around.
Simon cost us 200k from Barnet on Hessie's recomendation. By the New Year, with no Trans Fee to find, we should strike
him a long term deal asap ( REgretfully in the longer term, I know we would be obliged to sell if the right offer came along)

Now is certainly the time for a new contract before the offers start coming in.

We might have to offer Egan to the FA in lieu of 'punishment' - either way, and with the way that Egan is playing right now, if we lose him for any reason we'll lose a lot more games.

slightly 'off topic' - I don't know which of our 'promising' young players are out of contract by the end of the season --- if the FA 'hammer' the Club it will be difficult to persuade them to extend their stay - and we'll probably lose them on the cheap.

Best defender we've had since Kingy and without a doubt will go on to a big club in the future, we just need to make sure we're in a poaition to maximise the fee when that does happen.

    Best defender since King?

I don't know about that, I think Essam had so much potential that we squandered and then he himself threw away by making the move the Crawley, if he had been developed slowly I think he could have been something very special.

Who has been better in your opinion then?

Essam played well for a small period yes, but Davies was still better at the time and hasn't pushed on since then due to a number of reasons, some of which aren't his fault.

Egan isn't the new King, he isn't the new anything, he is himself. It is a just a personal hate of mine when good player is always compared to another player; the new King, the new Rooney etc. Especially when the "old" player was the "new" someone else. Wasn't King the new Bruce, so does that make Egan the "new new Bruce"?

I stand by what I said that I think the best player in terms of potential was Essam, much like Luke Rooney was probably the best potential midfielder we have ever had.

Problem being a combination of poor development by us, and them going for a bit of money elsewhere stifled their careers.

I would love to have seen Luke under MA, if he hadn't beaten him into being a team player nobody would.
