I was one of the ones who thought Arne was just a stop gap but now I'm thinking I was wrong. Is it too early to fall on my sword?
It's not too early to say he's made a fantastic start. It's not too early to be optimistic. That's all we can say so far.
It’s not too early to be impressed it’s our season so far. it is too early to be impressed with our season.
It's not too early to say that he's not a stop gap - that thought never even crossed my mind when we brought him in. Of course things may go wrong, but I struggle to see who he would be a stop gap for atm.
Only people who thought alonso would come. It was patently obvious alonso will only ever see us as his sloppy seconds so he can stay away just like Gerrard. I loved how anfield showed bellingham what they thought of him and I hope trent was listening too. If you want to be at anfield and you are good enough you'll be adored. If you ball tickle and head for real you'll be given the cold shoulder.
Can't say I ever felt Slot was a stop-gap manager. I was surprised at the appointment (partly due to my own ignorance of large swathes of foreign football), but I accepted that it had been well thought out. Of course others may have been in the running, and some even ahead of him perhaps, but that doesn't make him a temporary filler.
I never thought of him as a stop gap. That isn't our style, with managers at least, maybe some players. I think he would always have been given time. I wasn't impressed with the appointment based solely on gut feel. I still think, despite his smiling face and interviews getting better and better, that he still hasn't completely let go of Feyenoord. It took him, I think, 8 games to say 'we' in a match interview. Admittedly we were spoilt by Klopp who fit right in immediately. I wasn't expecting Slot to be the same and he shouldn't be the same, he's his own man. For me he's still a bit distant, maybe as others have said, that's a Dutch thing. I'm loving the results and that the players have 'played for him' from the off. The improvement in players like Gravenberch and Jones is impressive. The new messing about between the keeper and the CB's in building up play is frustrating but Slot's seeming hypnotic half time talk 'you will win this game' is a thing of beauty.
think it's just personalities and personally i prefer the reserved nature so why JK was great there were times when i though he was OTT. When i was playing basketball we used to form a circle stick out a hand into the middle and shout "lets go" . I just thought it was nonsense
Yeh, we're all different and we take to personalities differently. Just to go back to Shankly/Paisley once again, I was more drawn to Shankly's personality than Paisley's because i liked the overt nature of the attachment to the club and fans. Admired them both obviously.
Has to be quite demoralizing actually... There you are, ready to play a game and all your teammates want to leave already.
He's a quality stop gap tbh. Most clubs would love this kind of stop gap, yes, I'm looking at the red manc ****s
Probably thought him as a stop gap because of all the hype about Alonso and the fact I hadn't heard of him. Not our style? I know what you mean but these FSG yanks are hard to figure out. I've changed my thinking to pleasantly surprised and optimistic. Maybe a slight nick when shaving will suffice in the humble pie department.
