That's causing all the controversy in football? Quickly flicking through sky sports. John Terry allegations... AVB, denies FA charge Roo appeal date Tevez, no show again Venky, no sale Campbell, racist thing, Hardly owt about football, it's all the wrong type of news, whats happening to the game, and the matches themselves? Is the money to blame?
Undoubtedly. We've been selling the soul of english football since the early 90's. You look round the current news and its all bad news. This is only in part down to our gutter media. The rest is down to an influx of cash at a rate that has bred an arrogant and money obsessed new generation. Hence you get scenarios like Tevez. We now have our owner trampling all over tradition and heritage by changing the stadium name. Many of our own see this as a progress or the modern way. I only see a man out to make a quick buck and I wonder where it ends? Sports Direct United playing in red and blue? No more tradition than the stadiium name afterall and the precedent is set with Red Bull Salzburg.
MONEY. Sure is if you go on the opinion over the last few days. A number of comments along that line on the England/Ireland thread a day or two back. The big news here over the past two days has been about a young & very tallented lad who boozed it up BIG time, in Rarotonga & if he wasn't for the fact he's a WC winning All Black, he'd have been put into the dock & held to answer. Booze, Drugs, Women, Gambling or Fast Cars, it's all to easy. FFS, I've just ordered a new car today for the misses & have worked out that I need to save $500 extra a week for two years to pay for it.
if the Money wasnt in the PL, it still would be in the Spanish/German/Italian/Russian leagues, so we may as well have it here as well and have "the best league in the world" where players want to come and play. Some of the wages are silly, but then in a lot of sports they are, Alonso F1 gets £460,000 a week, Alex Rodriguez, Baseball gets £360,000 a week, the problem is with football, that players that make up the numbers, are also on silly money 20,000-40,000 a week, so it all adds up. I really wish sky was a localised service, like they have in America (getting back to the TV debate here) but in America, if a club doesnt sell out by the Thursday before a match, they cant have their game shown on local TV, we can still see it over here, or West coast can if its an East coast game, but the East coast cant, if it was like that over here, I do think we would get more bums on seats in the stadium, but selling the rights abroad so they can show every game live, has come back to bite them in the arse, with Internet streams and dodgy satelite in pubs and clubs. I have just started watching the College Football in America, yes college, its like watching Durham University vs York University, IE this would never happen over here, but they sell out stadiums week after week, and they are not poxy 20,000 stadia, some have got 108,000 stadiums that they fill week in week out, Oklahoma have sold out every game in a 88,000 stadium since 1999, thats just crazy (from my point of view anyway). There is no answer to it, even this FFP isnt going to make it better, if anything its going to make it worse, commercilised and take the working class further away from the game, than they already are at present. You cant even blame the ppl that have sky (like i have seen on here in the past) I get it because I love American Football, the kids like Disney and the Music Channels, and the Wife like the Movie Channels an Living, do I watch the PL, of course i do, but i could quite easy watch that on the net if i had to. Back to the players though, some deserve the cash, some dont, its just working out who does and who doesnt, but it is getting to the stage where its getting harder and harder for a club like ours to compete (yes Newcastle are at the minute, and well done to them, but its a marathon not a sprint, so lets wait and see)
