....that Jay Simpson has, to this point in his career, been misdiagnosed and is in fact a more natural midfielder? It just seems - watching from afar of-course - that he has done everything that might be asked of an attacking midfielder lately; in terms of creativity, strength on the ball and bringing others in to play; but as a striker, clearly has difficulty finding the net as often as he should. If this view were correct, is he more likely to start ahead of some other midfielders we have and be a welcome goal scoring "addition" to a team that plays two other strikers?
Nah. His contribution all comes from holding the ball up. I know it sounds daft when he's scored 1 in his last 22 but he is a good finisher, he just hasn't been getting in the positions for some reason.
I for one am always happy to see Jay in our team, I've said it before and I'll say it again, even if he doesn't score he's a very good footballer in general. You know what, I think he's not as 'greedy' as the best strikers, he's a team player. I would not sell Jay.
I agree with all the above - I hope we offer him another deal. I still honk he'll finish the season In double figures. Bruce was very complimentary about him in the post match interview.
What a load of codswallop! He is a striker, he is played as a striker and his strike rate is dire, no matter how good his general play is. How long would you hire a salesman whose paperwork is excellent, but it constantly tells you that he has sold buggerall? Simpson does not score and that's his job; smell the coffee ffs!
If him doing his paperwork efficiently means that every other salesman sells more, and the whole office sells better, ad clinches more big contracts then you'd persist.
It does sound daft, and its not just this season, remember his terrible misses away to Preston 2 seasons ago? As one example. He.s a skilful player, but cannot shoot and the pressure he feels makes him take the wrong option too many times. He has scored 6 goals, quite good finishes too, but his ratio of goals to chances is probably the worst of anyone else in the team

Despite his poor strike rate, Jay is a decent player at this level. His link up play is very good at times and he holds up the ball well, however he does lack the skill and clinical finish which would take him to the next level. We certainly can't rely on him to score the goals which will take us up automatically, he is however a good option to have on the bench.
simpson did very well yesterday in often very isolated circumstances... he is at his best when he has another pacey forward up with him to link with.., his best periods in a city shirt is a spell up front with stewart, and then aluko earlier this season..
Yeah, but if she introduced you to loads of her equally fit mates and you ****ed all them????????????? And her sister?
He is easy to play against. Any defender with half a brain will be able to read his game within 5 minutes of him playing. if he could mix things up a little then there may be something there, but as it stands he is not quite good enough
That's a very thin straw you're clutching there! I've never known sales work that way, just as I do not see him creating lots of goals within the team - we won yesterday because of a piss-poor back-pass. We seem to have club tradition of following players who graft, but achieve ****all
He's a number 10 so is Koren so is Aluko. Prozzy is the only striker at the club. We need someone to stand around the box and feed off the others efforts, like a Becchio or JVoH type.
We've played better this season with him in the side than not. He doesn't score enough, which is frustrating, but he's not ****.
