It's the knowing who can be "bullied" and who needs a "gentle reminder" about their position and the way they play which is the difference between a top coach and a Paolo Di Canio. Like any good manager involved in man=management then the rules are outlined at the beginning with the warning of no exceptions - regardless. First rule being "talk in a soft voice but let them see the big stick".
