According to Gary Neville, English football is on the ropes, since Chelski have gone out & it looks like the other CL teams will do likewise, with only Everton left it seems our countries points might be jeopardised & we lose a CL place, maybe by 2017/18 if English teams continue to perform poorly in Europe. Even we got dragged into it!

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/...defeat-shows-english-football-is-on-the-ropes

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-champions-league-spot-coefficients-explained

It seems as though as usual, every few years we start doing badly in Europe & all the pundits start being drama queens about how bad our teams are, same as when we had 3 teams in the CL semi final a few years ago we were the best in Europe.
The problem I find is that for whatever reason, our teams have a different mentality in Europe, in fact Chelski & Man City have similar mentalities to us, like when we went to Stoke, could & should have done better, but were scared of being beaten, in the end we lost. For whatever reason Mourinho & Pellegrini don't play like they do in the PL. I know a few City fans who are pissed off with the way they play in Europe & say they can't believe it's the same team, most would prefer for them to play like they can & get beat than be boring & lose anyway by a lesser margin. The mentality is coming into the game & I can't think why, it's not as though it's English managers who play the "English Way," these are supposed to be people who can get the best out of flair players, none of which are English. Today everyone's posting that pic of Terry & Cahill blocking each other leading up to the goal from PSG. The only players who were English!
Does the lack of English players actually hinder our teams in Europe?
Are English teams really that bad?
Would English managers help our teams more?
Why do we see so much cheating in the game, Worldwide? In England it is becoming more & more prevalent, how can it be stopped? Can it be stopped?
I feel anyone who has the answers could become a major force in moulding the future of football Worldwide. I hope it's soon because otherwise we will see the game get worse & worse!

Hopefully people are actually brought down to Earth and see that the Prem isn't as amazingly brilliant as they think it is.

Dont we have this every year when, time and again, our teams get shown-up by the best on the continent but then, after months of Sky hyperbole, we forget it again until the same time the next year?

English football isnt on the ropes, it's already miles behind.

We won't lose a Champions League place, the closest league behind us is Serie A and English teams will outperform Italian teams over the next couple of years I'm sure.

This year has been particularly poor though, and I'd say Barca, Real & Bayern were considerably stronger than any Premier League team right now.

As for the Premier League being the best league in the world, for all it's recent critics, it's obviously a great spectacle or it wouldn't receive the worldwide viewing that it does. I think the bottom 7/8 teams and top 1/2 have been poorer over the last couple of seasons but it's still a strong league.

I don't actually believe people do believe it is as brilliant as they think it is. For me the English leagues are very entertaining compared to the other leagues around Europe, maybe this is because I have no allegiance to other countries football teams, where as other countries fans love to follow English football teams.
I really find other leagues boring, I have tried watching German, Italian & Spanish games but can't seem to get into them, the only team I have any care for is England, even though not as much as it used to be, but I'd still not wear an England shirt!

And I think you've hit the nail on the head. Personally, I have to want either a team to lose or a team to win to be entertained by football. In England this is a lot easier because almost every Premier League game impacts on the team we all support, and even if we werent in the Premier League we still want some teams in it to win or lose. Seriously, think about it now - it's hard to find a team that literally mean nothing to you whether its because of geography, past incidents, personnel. etc. I dont like watching Spanish or German football for precisely this reason, i have zero interest in who wins or loses. The only way to get into foreign leagues (I think) is to pick a team to support feverishly and then all of a sudden you'll be interested in a lot more games.

This is very interesting about Italy. Wind back half a decade and any Italian club in the Europa League treated it with massive contempt. I recall even little Palermo's owner demanding of his coach to get knocked out because it was so pointless that they actually lost money on each game they played. But then it began to impact on the coefficient rating and there has in the last couple of years been a concerted effort by all Europa League participants to take it more seriously. As a result this season there are 5 teams still in it and the Premier League teams will soon be forced to take a similar stance.

I must be odd then because I quite often enjoy games where I've no preference for either side.

No other league in the world is even close to as entertaining as the English leagues. The fact that teams like Barcelona are still in it has nothing to do with their league being any fun to watch as there are really only 2 teams in that league.

Which single other team of last season's Champions League finalists are you referring to?

For the last decade Spain is basically Real vs Barcelona only once in 10 years has another team one their title. That's a boring ass 2 horse race.

Over the last few years English teams have fallen behind other European teams in terms of the Champion's League. We have also had periods where English teams have dominated the Champion's League.

It tends to go in waves. Recently the German's have been on the up, prior to that Barca were the team to beat. Before that English teams dominated the later stages of the competition for a few seasons. Real won it last season for the first time in years, although English clubs made up 25% of the quarters & semis.

The PL (Div 1) is consistently a far more entertaining & competitive league than most other European leagues & over the years it's teams have more than held their own in Europe.

Still 2 teams who arent Barcelona reached last season's world's biggest club tournament. And at the end of this season only 3 different teams will have won the Premier League in the past decade.

I also find all this **** about Chelski last night surrounding the ref as just the same as every other team in Europe. Yes they have a habit of it, but they're not alone, it does seem to be a very English team thing though, I just searched on Google for players surrounding the ref & it came up with English teams only, but I know I've seen it with foreign teams as well.
Apparently Zlatan's red card won't be rescinded, may even be increased, although unlikely, according to UEFA. It does make me wonder if it's to try & pretext their pet Real Madrid team in case they get drawn together.

Actually, it sounded like a party political broadcast on behalf of the "Gary Neville for England manager" party.

    Or am I being cynical?

Why do we see so much cheating in the game, Worldwide?

Because Blatter's won't do **** all about it.

In England it is becoming more & more prevalent, how can it be stopped? Can it be stopped?

    By getting rid of Blatter

I feel anyone who has the answers could become a major force in moulding the future of football Worldwide.

    Not until Blatter dies.

I hope it's soon because otherwise we will see the game get worse & worse!

    Amen.

Since the PL was formed 5 teams have won it. Have a guess how many have won La Liga in the same period?

As a matter of interest, which team do you think was in the top 3 the most times in La Liga between 1993 and 2004?

Blatter has got nothing whatsoever to do with a lack of cracking down on cheating in England. The Premier League can implement their own retrospective punishment but they choose not to. FACT.

I havent looked but I'd guess 3 and Valencia.

Actually it must be 4 at least - Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico and Valencia.

Maybe not but worldwide more people want to watch it. Technically brilliant doesn't always equate to entertaining.

Actually it is 5. The same as the supposedly more competitive PL. Deportivo La Coruna won the league as well. And Deportivo were the team in the top 3 the most between 1983 and 2004.

Up to a couple of years ago when Man City won the PL there had been more winners of La Liga since 1992.
