He is according to Phil Neville on Football Focus today. David James thinks Owen Hargreaves to Man City whilst Lee Dixon thinks Craig Bellamy's move to Liverpool for free was the best deal. IMO Crouch is a good buy for Stoke though a little over-priced for 30yrs old. We will have to wait and see if he does the business. I am hopeful.
Agree with you there Nicky. I'm far more excited by Palacios than I am by Crouch. Plus, we over paid for Crouch IMO but got a bargain with Palacios.
In some ways the Crouch aquisition may have been a statement by TP/PC that they could attract a high profile striker to Stoke. If he does the business of scoring or making goals he will be OK but overpriced certainly. Besides what does Phil Neville know?
A wee bit touchy there PP - agree about the statement BUT - ah well ALWAYS willing to be proved wrong!! Going to stick my neck out here and say that I reckon that Woodgate will turn out to be the best of the lot AND will help Shawcross to step up a gear. I won't insult your intelligence by finishing off IF he ..............................
Woody has been left out of the Europa League squad so properly managed he could play a significant number of PL games. I'd like to see him have a positive impact on Ryan's progress because it seems Capello has completely overlooked him as far as England is concerned and IMO he should be in the squad just by how he has so far played this season. ShawX/England and Capello is another debate of course and we know how it will probably turnout. How about a Woodgate/Shawcross pairing for England in the near future .............. it won't happen of course but a nice thought.
is crouch really that good? or any better than your current strikers?? especially for what 10 million? i'm suprised you lot didn't take Bendtner, think he'd do great with you and hes better than peter 6 foot 7 standing 5 foot 2 jumping crouch
RE Crouch Who gives a **** how much he cost, if during his 4 year tenure here we are still in the PL, then money received for acheiving that, would far outweigh his transfer fee, plus his signing has dramatically raised the profile of this club. You only have too look on other football forums & finally in the media, to realise that our little old club is being talked about. Great time to be a Stokie again, after 40 years of ****. KTF & UPT
I think he is the best that we could have got and whilst we will all have preferences (mine being Bendtner) there wasnt alot of movement in the striker position this window! Think we missed a trick on Demba Ba (especially for free) and maybe Bellamy on loan/free but we would never compete with a club like Liverpool! All in all I ahppy with Crouch, but dont understand why we have to have 6 strikers, unless Walters will now revert to his natural wing position that he played at Ipswich?
Exactly!!!! who cares how much he cost..... Coates is fecking loaded and so its only the wages we need to concentrate on and we have obviously got him for the wages we wanted to pay.
I think Crouch could be a snip. I'm not sure who you would drop to play him though with Walters workrate and Jones physique and ability to cause chaos! Palacios always looks great until he's got time on the ball, his passing is atrocious, but no worse than Glenn Whelans! ;-)
I think its all about cudos ... of course Crouch was a signing to pave the way for the future... im sure he is a top top player ! as we all know and will no doubt we will find out real soon ... the staus of the club is rising and by bringing in players of such ilk will only enhance our future signings .. tbf we simply cant fault TP on this ... he is making us into a top ten prem league side .. realistically how far can us potters GO ? Its all good so far aint it !! UTP
I don't care if he was or not in honesty. If we stay up, Crouch scores say 10+ goals this season and we finish above 10th this season. It's a no boner in my eyes... well worth the fee. WHO else, Bendtner the exception could we HAVE got in.. And Bendtner could do well at Sunderland. Let's wait until the end of the season to compare player's. Tony Waddington once said" A player is worth every penny if, he plays to his potential. If he betters his potential, he's priceless" This was just a few months after we signed the one, the only Alan Hudson. Wasn't wanted by Chelsea and ignored by the then England manager.
Good points, Potts. I am sure Crouch will serve Stoke well. I can't remember Tony Waddington's comment you mention but I do remember when we bought Alan Hudson (£240k) it was a huge amount at the time and raised a few eyebrows. Moreover the fact that Waddo was able to sell Stoke to Huddy was a masterstroke. And, boy, what a player he was. TP may have pulled off a similar coup with Crouchie....... let's hope so.
