Or in other words a “puppet on a string” a “ mouthpiece” whichever way you want to view it. This is what Steve Bruce said on 9 August 2019 at the pre-Arsenal press conference: “The players brought in were too good for the Championship. And those players, five or six of them, are still the nucleus of the squad. They deserve big credit and that is why I want to reward them (with new enhanced contracts). “I have had a conversation with Lee Charnley and he feels exactly the same too. We’ll be sitting down and talking to four or five of them to make sure that cornerstone remains. They deserve new deals which we need to tie them up to and I think Lee (Charnley) has already spoken to two or three. “He (Isaac Hayden) has indicated he is willing to sit down and talk to us – I’m delighted of course. Him and Matt Ritchie and the goalkeeper and the captain (Jamaal Lascelles), there are probably four or five we want to talk to.” Now 144 days later only Dubgoalie has signed an extension but Brucie’s new tune “It doesn’t concern me because it is what it is… Every player has that right now [to run their contracts down and leave]. “If they are not happy with their deal or whatever…then okay we have to accept exactly what it is. That is the situation we’re in.” Doesn’t look like Penfold is being too persuasive and from “making sure” we now are at “accepting ...what it is”. One of the reasons I didn’t like Pardew was that he would regularly change his view simply to toe the party line and somehow expect everyone to forget what he had said a short time previously. Seems Brucie is developing the same trait.
I think that this was always the fear. I've no confidence that Bruce will kick off if and when the squad is trimmed. He'll fall into line with his boss's decisions
He doesn't have a giant severance package, it's easy to be a loudmouth when you know getting the sack results in a massive multi million £ payout.
I like him and I really hope we continue to do well, so I'm hoping we get bowen and moreles in and I believe we can then try to keep this going, however without reinforcements i'm afraid a relegation sweat is only a months away.
me too … we can't cope with max being injured …. I think bowen looks class .. not seen morelos but he scores a lot... tbh I think its one or the other at best
Morelos is a good player, but he's got an attitude and picks up a lot of cards. Bowen is far too good to come here, he has been linked with almost every single club in the premier league and championship this season. I'd say Morelos is a more likely signing, as a lot of big teams don't like players who risk suspension.
there are reports bowen himself wants to sign for Newcastle mind mate … I want both but I can't see that happening
Bruce is a yes man. Yes. Man. He will feed off scraps and try and dress it up like a banquet. Only Rafa stuck up for the club and fans against Ashley and we know how that ended up. The fat bunt likes yes men... end of.
bruce was so fast to start up this comparison with rafa this season while playing his players in his system might I add!! I said then he has clearly not looked at how well we did post xmas and it would come back on him, but he along with the people that don't know forgot to consider that or consider how good rafas squad rotation is thus allowing us to not get into such a mess in terms of injuries..... soon they will see what I have been saying since spurs away when they all started piping up. now he's going to stick to this notion he was doing better , but for being unlucky with injuries he will say things like who knows!!! I suppose rafa was just lucky for 3 seasons finishing strong … the mans not going to fool me …
Bruce is as i expected going hard with excuses... blaming fixture congestion, however he knew these players had issues, he knew max had issues . The mam either got greedy or he didnt have the sense to realise he was better off resting our first team entirely for 2 or even 3 games. Poor squad rotation asside look at our defending and look at how bad we are up front. Look at the performances .. Ive concluded he is a terrible manager ... that conclusion is correct .
I am 100% certain that the media will ignore the reality that bruce himself is responsible for the injury crisis and continue to push the he was doing better than rafa narrative ! Sighting that he was unlucky with injuries.
