Bale was actually getting pretty good on defensive headers at set-pieces, but I think his role got altered to the near post recently and he's been responsible for two mistakes there. The first was in Lyon and the second was the OG against the Goons. Crouch used to be great as the first man in those situations, as it meant that any ball into the box had to be at a ridiculous height. Defoe should always be left up on them, so it's not such an issue for him. Having the threat of him and Lennon breaking against you should worry the crap out of most sides.
Haha fair play but in fairness, I think Bale has cut out most of the diving and loafing around, though If he keeps doing what he's doing goal wise, he can sit down and play a PS3 for half hour for all I care Thing is mate, it's the goal-scoring form that really matters in my eyes. IF Bale hadn't been in the form he's been in, it's frightening to see where the goals would've come from. I still feel though that Ade isn't putting half as much effort in games as what he could be, especially when comparing to how brilliant he was last season, even when he weren't scoring last year he was still either picking up assists or being really involved with the play, he's just not done that this season in my opinion. And after what Spurcat told us RE Ade asking for an extra 24 hours to come back from the AFCON and still wasn't coming back until 72 hours after that, I just don't think he really gives a toss about our club at the moment and with that in mind, I have no respect nor patience for him. I know Defoe was in a drought himself pre-injury but there was something with Defoe that made me feel like a goal was always possible, with Ade on the pitch, I just pray Bale/ Dembele/ Lennon etc can do something. Agree that Ade comes in handy on defending set pieces but disagree that Bale's purple patch will ditch if Defoe was the lone striker. That's too hard to predict in my opinion, Bale's come into his own that past 10 games, his current form leads me to believe that Obika can play upfront and yet Bale will still produce magic, he's in the form of his life. In fairness to Defoe though, he nearly picked up an assist not long after coming on the pitch Sunday but Gylfi fluffed his chance. Defoe has been far more promising in an attacking sense than what Ade offered. So although Ade is useful for defending set pieces, I'd rather have a striker on the pitch who offers more in attack than defence and on this season's form, Defoe is definitely the preferred option for me in the striker role.
