The next five years, a top ten finish each time, good stable well run club.....20,000 + crowds each league game......is it enough or have we got to achieve Premiership footbal?

Anyway enough of football, favourite Dylan track please......mine......I Believe In You!<whistle>

Top 10 is acceptable this year.

As for the following seasons it depends on the investment.

I think there will be enough to make promotion a real possibility next season.

This season id say weve an outside chance.

Top 10 acceptable this year but would hope for better next year.

The answer to this is blowing in the wind, we were fixin to die Blues until the Malaysians turned up, a hard rain was going to fall, it hurts me to, a fool such as I will never believe that Cardiff City could be knockin on heavens door

Top ten, would have accepted it at the start of the year................disappointed with "only" a top ten now fickle fans or what?

well, after consecutive 4th place finishes, yes, i'd say 10th would be disappointing!

in the same way that portsmouth supporters will be disappointed with being in the championship after being in the BPL so long and winning the FA cup!

Given DJ was sacked as he'd taken us as far as he could and the Malaysians brought in Malky to move us forward then surely the board and manager should be looking at automatic promotion. Anything less would have to mean we've gone backwards.
I still think if we are in the top 10 come the new year an auto-spot may still be achievable but certainly a play off place, anything less must be deemed a failure.

Taff, I might be in a minority but I can't buy into that. If we had the same players as last year, under Malky, then anything less than 4th I could see as a step backwards but we haven't. Yes the club is the same but this is a brand new squad so can't really be judged on the achievements (or not) of others. New broom and all that.

Anything less then 4th this year I wont see as a step backwards... just a benchmark for next year.

Top 10 would have taken that 3 months ago but looking for top 6 now.

As far as Dylan, not my cup of tea.

My only gripe with this "top ten finish" mularky is the implication that it was acceptable this year before a ball was hardly kicked.

If the board, management and players adopted that philosophy at the outset, we'd probably have a relegation battle on our hands in the New Year.

I realise as much as anyone else just how dire the club's financials have been these past half dozen years, but I don't believe for one minute that because of that, we've embarked on this season's campaign with mid table as an objective.

Yes, the owners are shrewd but not without ambition - their very presence here encourages me to believe we will again SERIOUSLY challenge for promotion this year. If it's to be a top ten finish and no playoff spot then so be it and I wouldn't be devasted, but there is no way that is a target at this stage of the season.

I honestly believe we have a great chance of promotion this year. Maybe most opinions see the playoffs as the most likely route, but I stiil see auto as more than just possible.

Regarding Dylan - agree with Rhondda. I preferred the one in the Magic Roundabout.

If the owners put enough investment in and if the manager of the day gets the right players then Cardiff should be able to push on a challenge every season for promotion but that would also depends on the teams coming down and how big their bank balance is and how wealthy their owners are!

Looks negative with those highlighted words but that is not the intention, just wholly realistic and should be for most clubs in 12 - 14 of the Championship.

Bluebirds have had a great spell since coming back to the 2nd tier, the best in many, many years, probably the best in living memory for most of you but it now comes down to sustainability. I have no idea if that will happen or not but if I was a Bluebirds fan I would be optimistic for the near future <ok>

Fair enough Sparkey.... <cheers>
I was not advocating that the above scenario is acceptable, it was a thought based on watching Cambridge v Wrexham the other night (the football was dire). In recent years we would have been beaten by both these sides.

The Kenny Miller goal the other night was sublime, and he is a Cardiff City player with a team full of similar level players, hey, we have come to accept this standard as normal.

I am old enough to remember going out to buy The Football Echo, (communicatio was not as it is today) to see who scored for us in a 1-3 loss week after week. We are in a light place at the moment, and my thoughts were based on…….is this an acceptable place to be?

Not 'avin a go at you or your article at all Dom <ok> - just don't see why some supporters believe that a top ten finish should be a target so early in the season. We've got to give it every chance without being silly with money again.

Having said that, the money would presumably be from the deep pockets of Vincent Tan making it a personal committment rather than the external loan scenarios of Ridsdale and Hamman before him (that's if you believe Langston is not him).

Perhaps we should also consider the management of expectations? We all know what we expected last year and had a crap summer on the back of the eventual disappointment.

If our expectation is top 10 (we don't say just where in the top 10) but reach the higher levels of that expectation, it will make it a positive season end. Also we are not talking ourselves up too much and setting us up for another fall.

In reality we all know where we want to be but not saying as much lays a bit of cover if we don't make it.

Sparkey old bean.
After your Dylan comments, I would love to sit down with you and a couple of pints. I could possibly educate you into the importance of surrounding yourself with good music.
Dylan`s music is quite unique, which granted, usually sounds better performed by other artist`s.
Then there is Leonard Cohen, surely with no equal, when your life needs a little lift.
A whole plethora of folks artists are at your disposal, and possibly yet for you to discover…I could help you with this, just say the word.
The there`s me, now I could belt out a few numbers for you, which is where the pints come in……the more you drink the better I sound mate!
