  1. Just been looking at some people saying that we should sell Barton because his contract is running out at the end of next season...

I think this is complete and utter **** to be honest.

Barton gave more than 4 million quids worth of performances last season, if he hadn't been in the squad, we'd have lacked creativity, and got relegated, which would have cost more than 4 bloody million i'll tell u that!

I say let him finish his contract, and give his all for one last season.

I'll have faith in our new signings but i don't want Barton gone yet. There's no garuntee they'll be a success, and if they're not, we're ****ed, but if we keep Barton, atleast we'll know we have a key player to keep us up if we have a disappointing slide down the table.

I just don't want Joey to go, and i can't believe that cockney bastard wont offer him a contract, and it's quite obvious it's because Joey is too outspoken for his liking.

You don't offer a crippled, unproven frenchmen a 5 year contract and pay 5.5 million for him, and then not even offer our best player who's been amazing this season, atleast a 4 year contract.

    1 Joey Barton!

    I agree.

Although I do think Ashley has offered him a contract , but Mckay is holding out for a better deal.

Surely in Bartons case it would be better to sell him now rather than let him leave for free
    next year?
Having said that, if moneys not the issue why can't they meet in the middle and
    agree a 3 year deal?

Its a gamble because he could end up injured, we could just spend the 4 mill on a new player who would stay for 5 years.

If his requests don't fit in with the wage structure of the club then so be it, sell him in the summer for £4m, lucky to get that mind considering

Exactly to be honest I'm coming round to the idea of him going. He could start putting out tabs on our new signings eyeballs at any time really.

  14. You missed my point. I meant, Barton is reportedly going to be sold for 4 million to Everton, however people have been saying lets get some cash for him now, however i think Barton#s performances are worth far more than 4 million over the course of a season. I reckon it would be more costly to sell him.

I'd let him stay for another season. Barton has said he's definitely stay for next season and no way is he being sold, and i'm happy. The only person he's going to be taking money off anyway is Mike Ashley, so i don't care and the only person that that 4 million will be going to if he is sold, is Mikey Ashley again. So again i don't care.

There is no reason why he should not get a contract.

I agree with your main point Tash. Keep him for the year. Gives us the security of a having a player we know can perform in the league thus giving a bedding in period for a new signing. Plus it gives a chance for common sense to prevail and for Barton and the club to come to an agreement. It is worth the risk of losing the money.

But to echo some other comments, lay of Ben Arfa it is pure conjecture and only serves to stir up negativism.

I would also point out that Barton has been offered a contract it is the length of the contract that is the issue. But I know that you already know this you just don't seem to consistently say it.

I agree with Tash. 4 million is nothing really, not for a player of Barton's caliber.
IF Barton is definitely going, that's IF... I'd rather have him here next season to play for us than to not have him here next season and have as little as 4 million.
Of course, if Barton is definitely going, that 4 million would be covering Cabaye who could be his supposed replacement.

    It's a tricky one.

If he's as good as he was this season (and I have no doubts he will be) then his performance is definitely worth more than 4m. We just couldn't bring in a player for 4m that would equal his standard (I'm assuming Tiote is a one-off). What good English midfielders could we get for 4m?! James McCarthy is worth 12 million apparently!
So, yeah, I'd rather keep him this season and hope/pray he signs a new contract than have to find a sub-standard midfielder with limited funds

Exactly <ok> A year's a long time, he could go ahead and sign a contract in 6 months time or something.
