Looking at the Cardiff in for Ched Evans thread, in the Daily Star <doh>

Where they say that he is on a hit list drawn up by new manager Malky McKay..............who has been given a SUBSTANTIAL WAR CHEST by the clubs Malaysian owners.

Add this too the speculative rubbish that "Alan Shearer was promised a £20 MILLION TRANSFER KITTY when being offered the managerial post at Cardiff"

Now I'm pretty sure that our owners, or Gethin Jenkins hasn't revealed the amount of any transfer kitty to the press <ok> Could this rubbish hamper MM in his rebuilding plans? OK I know that in the football world the reputed £20 million is not a fortune, but it's a respectable amount for a championship club. I know it's well down the scale compared to the likes of Man City, Man Utd or Chelsea, but Mourinhio, Ferguson and lately Mancini have complained that when their clubs show an interest in a player......well the price goes up by 20%...................I just can't help wondering, if this sensationalist, lazy, inaccurate journalism could have a similar effect on Cardiff's rebuilding plans...........albeit on a much smaller scale.

I suspect other clubs can think what they like, if the price isn't right I'm thinking we won't be buying, them days are gone.
If they want to sell they better be reasonable, there are a lot of players out there who can do the job.

Thankfully I think at this level the gutter press is completely ignored, the vast fortunes of the clubs you mentioned are well documented and therefore they deserve every bit of squeezing they receive. What with the game being dominated by money at that level they have no arguement for it, don't hate the player, hate the game as they say.
I think at this level the most important factor in a transfer fee is the club's valuation of the player, that's the only thing that gets inflated in my view.

    Proph,

I think that Gethin & Malky will make sure that we get the best deal, once other teams get to know that we will be willing to walk away if the price is too high they might have second thoughts about upping their price.

OK I'm a miserable old get, I can remember when £100 a week and a club Zodiac, would have internationals battering the doors down to sign...................now half a season at a reasonable level well their agents all think they have Pele on their books ;)

I get the feeling we aren't willing to pay out the wages we have been.
Decent and competetive we will be, outlandish? I don't think so.
So they can price up what they like, we won't be paying over the odds this time around for players just out to make up the numbers.

the story is probably complete bullsh*t, but i wouldnt mind ched evans coming here, he's welsh, young, talented, and could come relatively cheap as sheffield have been relegated. add in earnshaw and the squad really begins to take shape :)

I think we overpaid for players in the early days of Sam Hammam when he started throwing silly money about for average players ; that said Ched evans hasn't exactly set the world alight at Sheff Utd I think its 13 goals in 70 odd appearances.

    I agree...Mr Evans hardly has a prolific strike-rate!

Also that when Sam rolled into town the over-spending was seen as a signal of intent and power...not so then and definitely not any longer!
As for clubs adding 20% when we're on the other end of the phone, can't see it as we're likely to play hard-ball at the negotiation table and clubs can't afford to see players sitting around losing contract months and costing so much of their wage bill...and plenty of free-agents or Prem players not making the 25-man squad...the name Bellamy seems to ring a bell, pardon the pun.

Agree with what has been said here about curbing spending. I believe we are going to do that and the 20 million is a figure plucked out of the air or has been misunderstood.

The one thing i will say about Ched though is that often a player with talent just does not fire until he gets to the right place. Bothroyd as an example. Of course all that means if he came cheap, then go for it.

The other part of how MM manages that interests me is that he has a reputation for playing youngsters. Was that because he did not have a budget to actually buy senior players or is it really his managerial philosophy?

I think any player, Ched Evans included can only be as good over a whole season as those around him let him be, so it is the whole building exercise by MM that matters, thats what we have to watch.
But as for cost, I thought Evans was on a free. Must be msitaken. :(

With the UEFA far play regulations coming into force in 2013 all clubs will have to start addressing the wage issues now.
What will the impact be on players running down their contracts and the transfer fee demands of clubs?
Will clubs be able to hold onto their players if the team does not perform well and the gate receipts are significantly reduced?
I think Ched Evans has a release in his contract if the club were relegated so won't cost anything. My guess is he'll look for a higher salary on a shorter contract but don't think it would break the wage structure at the club. Interesting times ahead for the championship clubs.

at the right price he would be worth a punt, if he's overpriced then he's not worth breaking the bank for. we sold chopra for £1.5m so that is the benchmark for a striker who scores around one in three with a year left on his contract - any more than that and they can keep him IMO.
