Not seen a thread for this so thought I'd start one. Irish Oaks is this saturday and the book currently reads: Talent 5/2 Riposte 5/2 Alive Alive Oh 9/2 Venus De Milo 7/1 Chicquita 7/1 Just Pretending 9/1 Magical Dream 33/1 Scintillula 33/1 Talents epson form is questionable, I read somewhere that the 3rd and 4th that day didn't even place next time out. Riposte is probably the strongest bet for me with Chicquita, who could be anything in a reverse forecast. Costing 600,000 euros she must be looking to pay back some of that price tag sooner or later.
Hi SMP. I had a speculative EW on Chicquita at 10/1 earlier this week. Also had it added to the Betfair market for the Arc. I thought it lost approx 6 to 8 lengths on Treve by its wide route from the back & from its wide draw, together with allowing Treve first run. Treve may have been value for a greater winning margin that day in the Diane, but Chicquita ran very green again, awkward under pressure & only started to stretch out a few yards from the line. She ran green the race before, crashing into a hedge ! Perhaps another montjeu nutcase but they do tend to improve with racing & she is probably entitled to when she finally gets the hang of things. Murtagh on Saturday, should be an advantage. Saturday should tell us how good the Diane form really is. Fast time but the earlier pace may have been stronger than typical with two good milers in contention. In future races, I wouldn't be completely confident that Treve would confirm the Diane form with Chiquita & they are 10/1 & 33/1 respectively with bookmakers for the Arc. The disparity is far greater on Betfair & hopefully Saturday should be a guide as to whether Treve is far too short for the Arc or chicquita is way too big. I'm looking forward to it.
People seem very ready to write down Talent. Not sure I understand why. Becket could have run Secret Gesture and I'm sure everyone would have been showing great interest yet Talent seemed to beat her fair and square. We'll see.
Not only have I already got mi coat, I've left sheepishly by the side door. Well done on the winner lads
Thanks OddDog. Chicquita makes up for Pastorius last week. Still can't believe how he ran so badly. Firm ground ?
Are there any bookies offering odds on whether Alive Alive Oh will ever run again? The owner must have very deep pockets to keep declaring her for top races and then withdrawing a couple of hours before the race time. Chicquita is still available in the Arc betting at 33/1 having dispensed with her maiden tag; whilst her Prix de Diane conqueror, Treve has contracted to 8/1.
