Must be a new policy by Bates, which has been passed down to his wee puppet Grayson:

Leeds United must only take players who are willing or have played for Republic of Ireland football team.

Perhaps Bates thinks the Irish government will pay him for playing their players, it certainly isn't due to their own footballing ablity.

There are lots of quality Irish players as well, some who have been available this summer, Shane Long and Robbie Keane. Problem is they are quality and would require serious investment, something we wont see in the immediate future. Also, dont forget we have had some quality Irish players down through the years, Johnny Giles, Gary Kelly, Ian Harte and Robbie Keane. So its not just poor Irish players we have but some English muppets as well. Maybe the English government is paying Bates as well so

No problem with some of the Irish players, just the ones we have now got. Can't see why we have so many, as they're mostly average at best.
You forgot David O'Leary, Jim Beglin (I know their careers were nearly over and their legs had gone, but still better than most we have seen at the club), Stephen McPhail, Jonathan Douglas, John Sheridan etc
I wonder if Bates thinks by signing Irish players, the high level of Irishmen & Irish kids who travel to Leeds for home games and stay in the hotels around the city, will be happy and not hate him?

To be honest its just pure coincidence weve a couple of poor Irish ones. We also have a good one though in Aidy White. He'll eventually come good and no doubt O Dea will be back at Celtic long before his loan spell ends

He won't, 100% fact. He will not be back at Celtic and he's been told that, he said his "goodbye" last week to staff at Celtic Park.
