Somewhere perhaps to write your thought on today's game, all watching on television, I suspect. If you we're going to the game, you'd be long gone by now, never been to that neck of the woods. NPOWER CHAMPIONSHIP Venue: Portman Road Date: Saturday 6 October Kick-off: 17: TEAM NEWS Ipswich manager Paul Jewell will decide whether to play Michael Chopra, after the striker was charged with serious breaches of the rules of horse racing. Luke Hyam (back) and Paul Taylor (foot) are out but loanees Richie Wellens and DJ Campbell could both debut. Table-topping Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is set to name an unchanged side, but Jordon Mutch could be a sub after recovering from a foot injury. Striker Tommy Smith (hamstring) faces a late fitness test. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Ipswich have won 18 and lost nine of 38 league matches against Cardiff, spanning 74 years. • The Suffolk club are unbeaten in seven Championship outings with the Bluebirds, culminating in a 3-0 victory in last season's corresponding fixture in February, when Lee Martin bagged a brace, and Michael Chopra scored against his former club for the second time in an Ipswich shirt. • Cardiff have claimed just one point out of 21 against the Tractor Boys, and have won just one of their last 17 league trips to Portman Road; 2-1 in December 2008. Ipswich Town • Paul Jewell's side are on the longest current sequence without victory in the Championship, and are pressing for a first maximum in eight outings. • They are the only club in the division with just one victory to their name, and one of two yet to triumph in front of their home supporters. • The Tractor Boys are also the only club still in single figures in the Championship's "Goals For" column, after a paltry return of seven in nine games. Cardiff City • Malky Mackay's side boast more Championship victories than any other club, with the exception of Leicester; both have six. • All 19 points have been secured from matches in which fewer than two goals have been conceded. • Cardiff have an unparalleled total of five players who have been on the field for every minute of their Championship programme this season; David Marshall, Mark Hudson, Kevin McNaughton, Andrew Taylor and Peter Whittingham.
It's a long time since I last went to the tractor boys, a long trip but not as bad as Carlisle. Went there (Carlisle) in '76 we were winning 3-1 with 10 mins to go and lost 4-3 it was a long way back home just before xmas too.
Must think positive, a repeat of this result will do me! Ipswich 1 Cardiff 2: (December 2008) Bluebirds boss Jones admits he's powerless in Ledley tug-of-war Cardiff's Joe Ledley could leave Ninian Park in January Dave Jones admitted he would be powerless to stop his best players leaving in January as play-off chasing Cardiff City continued their assent up the Championship table. Cardiff moved into fifth after goals from Jay Bothroyd and Gabor Gyepes saw them record their first victory at Portman Road for 62 years. But Jones knows he could see his promotion challenge disrupted by the potential loss of on-loan Aston Villa winger Wayne Routledge and prized asset Joe Ledley during the transfer window. The Bluebirds boss says there is no chance of the FA Cup finalists making Routledge’s deal permanent but is hoping that highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder Ledley – linked with a move to Everton - will stay at Ninian Park. Jones said: ‘My chairman will be terrified if I go asking for money now. ‘We’re trying to keep him (Ledley) but if the right price comes in for any of our players, we have to survive and that’s what I’ve got to work with. ‘If we can do well maybe players will want to stay. We’re all aiming for Premier League football.’ Bothroyd put Cardiff infront in the ninth minute after taking advantage of a blunder by Ipswich captain Gareth McAuley and tapping in Routledge’s cross from eight yards. McAuley quickly made amends by clearing a Michael Chopra effort off the line but Gyepes soon made it 2-0 after heading in Paul Parry’s free-kick. Jon Stead pulled one back for Ipswich with a leaping header before the break before Ben Thatcher was sent off for two fouls in two minutes on Routledge midway through the second half. ‘The belief was there but the sending off knocked us back a bit,’ said Stead. ‘Thatcher had a tough job against Routledge who was dangerous the whole game. ‘The whole division is struggling with consistency and we are a prime example of that.’ Championship results... Handball definite handball he even pushed it into the net looked at the linesman and then celebrated bloody cheating twat piss off back to twat land you dikc-rant over
After watching 40mins I'm fed up already n frustrated with the way we are set up!!! So negative again...got Cowie/Gunners playing just behind HH yet mason out wide doing F***ALL only time we looked dangerous is when mason was in middle of park!!!!
So far we've got exactly what we deserve. We haven't threatened at all and Ipswich realise they can attack as much as they want. Noone not doing his defensive duties and no threat going forward. Need a big shake up at half time.
Gunnarson playing as 2nd striker wtf. Got what mm deserved first half, why sit there and watch it not work to that extent and just leave it. Ipswich deserved the goal, handball or not. Stick mason up, get Gunnar back in the midfield where he ****ing should be, put Cowie out wide to try and close down at least one of the flanks they're attacking. I hope he brings on an attacking player for Cowie though
1mill on velikonja and 2+ on Kim bo and we're watching Gunnar try to play up front in the hole. That's one of the worst halfs I've seen under mm.
Couldnt agree more. Malky needs to start being braver away from home. As somebody said elsewhere win one lose one is better than 2 draws (or losses as seems to be happening more). Really frustrating to watch. We are better than this.
The idea is... that we score a goal. Ffs. Are we the most frustrating team to watch in the history of football?
how were we lucky? their goal was a handball, pure luck that the referee didnt see it. it was a relatively even game, a worse team would have kept things tight and accepted a draw with 80 mins to go but we kept plugging away and got the win we deserved......
genious substituitions from malky just what the game needed We are gonna go up this year with the squad we have
We were so poor in the first half and lucky to only be one down. But credit for the way we worked and put Ipswich under pressure in the second that ultimately we deserved the win. In the end a very nervous Ipswich couldn't cope. On another day against better opponents that 90 minutes would not be good enough. But in the end a valuable three points. Onwards and upwards.
Only the second win up there in 60 years. Hard team to play against at Portman Road. Four of our best players out injured. Their goal was an intentional handball. We rode our luck at times but faced up to them in the second half. No complaints from me. Proud of that team today.
