Yes, the Far East market is us, United, and Arsenal in that order, and those 3 clubs (in differing orders) are far and away the most historical global brands of English football and especially the Prem as it has developed. Sorry as well, I thought it was the prem who allocated the teams based upon TNT's (or BT Sport, as was) requests. PS, I said Szobbo and Macca were ****e as well in the first half. Your thoughts on Quansah though? And again I'll state that buying Gordon for £50/60m shouldn't be putting a dent in us buying a no 6 AND a left back @ £80m for both. We're already £28m up on this window, aren't we (and that's just Carvalho)? And that doesn't include other fringe players we've shipped out AND getting high earners like Thiago and Matip off the books. Absolutely insane, IMO, to not get Gordon if we can, whether we are able to strengthen in other areas or not, and ewe have no reason to sell at all. It is, after all, supposedly the philosophy to buy the players we want whenever they become available - is anyone seriously saying Gordon doesn't fit that bill?
After that programme you put out yesterday, I truly wish you well. I think when you get Kalvin Phillips up-and-running you'll shock a few teams this season. And there's plenty of pace in that side, and you want to attack. You'll get walloped a few times this season, but you'll also win several at home in that ground with those fans. Think I was there in '76 ( ?) when you knocked us out of the FA Cup. Beautiful pitch with circular patterns iirc? The old days of football specials, Brian Moore on ITV, Mick Mills, Brian Talbot, and Kevin Beattie heading the ball longer than a goal-kick! Going all Abe Simpson here. Good luck. Hope you get a great reception when you come to Anfield as well.
the far east market is irrelevant in the choice of games for TNT as there contract is for UK the rights for the rest of the world are sold seperately and watched on different platforms . We won't be spending £200m this window because well we won't though tbh not sure Slot wants us to as he isn't sure what we have . My view on Gordon is first buy players for the positions that urgently need upgrades /additions first i.e.deep lying MF , LB , RW cover and then decide we don't need Gordon anyways hows tricks ?
i seem to remember them in a very long running FA cup tie with about 3 or 4 replays before they got a result oh and escape to victory
Ipswich v WBA....78' was it.....bloodied heads and bandages.....they don't do semi's like that anymore
you would get done for a assault these days for what that back then everyone would go "oh what a wonderful tackle"
Same old, same old. Giving GC a swerve for a bit - some of the locals there not taking the election result too well, and the failed UK version of Jan 6th has triggered them even more. But enough of that malarkey - leave the politics there. I was always coming back for the new season, so onward and upwards. You know me - Mr Brightside.
Not just on the opposition - I truly think Tommy Smith, when he was our captain, would have kicked Trent into the stands had he done that whimpy, hide-in-a-corner thing he did in the derby against Calvert-Lewin for their second goal. I love Trent to bits, and having a local lad as our next captain will be a dream, but we forget those old war horses like Smith, Bremner, Labone, Styles, Harris, and so forth were as hard on their own side as the opposition at times. I remember reading an article by Kevin Keegan (a hard little bugger himself) that Smith tagged him in almost every training session in his last few months at the club when he made it clear he was moving. I think he'd have loved Mane and Gerrard. And Suarez - until he tried to leave the club!
I see Lineker is voicing his opinion again; this time about managers (Slot) criticising players (Quansah) in the post match interview
He's got something to say about everything, (except Keir Starmer, oddly enough). I'm a Slot sceptic and even I didn't see a problem with what he said about Quansah. I saw it more as him confirming there was no injury and it was purely tactical.
I would have preferred him not single out Quansah like that. He's young, he's got a bright future, I don't want him to start feeling alienated by Slot. That said, I don't know what relationship the two have in training or what is said behind closed doors. Slot might have said in the dressing room already, "nothing personal, chin up, I believe in you long term." Also probably not helpful for Quansah that all our media transfer links seem to be for CBs ever since Ipswich game.
I don't think he singled him out. He was asked whether there was an injury iirc. He did go on to qualify that the substitution was tactical because as a team we weren't winning our 1v1's, it wasn't just Quansah. I agree with you though that as a general rule, managers shouldn't single out players. I think the CB talk has been going on a few years. We haven't replaced Lovren yet.
He gave him the nod for his first 11, that says a lot. He saw that he wasn’t coping well enough with his opposite number and subbed him… Anything beyond that it’s just sensationalist bollox
He did single Quansah out. He said Quansah lost a lot of duels - then said as a team we lost a lot in the first half.
You're right. I've just gone and watched it again. There's me trying really hard to stick up for the man who I'm not sure about and you correcting me
To be fair wasn't like he dig into the kid anyway. Was just a brief comment about it followed by whole team. I guess like others said, if he’s had a quiet word with him at Ht or FT and given him constructive feedback then Quansah needs to use that as a platform to show next time he plays. If he’s just sulked cos he got subbed then that’s in Quansah. Better players than him have been taken off at HT and just got on with things.
Konaté is more of a beast and that's what Slot decided was needed. Quansah will be fine, I'm sure - everyone has to be able to take constructive criticism or they're in for a hard life.
