Read this on the BBC: Ipswich has tried and failed three times to become a city and it also chose not risk it again, much to the relief of Ipswich Town Football Club. The Town, as the team is known, had been an issue during the previous city status bids. "Ipswich City sounds stupid," says Ipswich fan Tim Edwards. "ICFC is horrible. It sounds like a DIY store." He says he wouldn't want city status, even if it meant catching up with their biggest rivals Norwich City. "Norwich has four things they can lord over us - a cathedral, an airport, it's a city and they are in the Premier League. We are only bothered about the Premier League and we are confident that won't last for long." Mmmm..... losers 3 times, where have I heard that before?
In all honesty, Ipswich would never change their name to City, they would simply drop the town part and become Ipswich Football Club.
the city of Luton and Dunstable they've a airport so fair enough; their football club isn't too hot though
I admit that Ipswich isn't the prettiest place but at least it is surrounded by beautiful Suffolk countryside. You have to hold your nose when you drive through Luton! Luckily I live in Cambridge which is arguably the most beautful City in East Anglia!
Grim place, the airport and the M1 which allow you to leave the place are the only positives. I was flying back into Luton from Berlin about two months ago, I've been to some binhole cities but it's the only place where I've actually seen someone begging for money in the WHSmith in the airport.
The last time i went to Luton was a pre season friendly, the highlight was seeing Daley Thompson on their training staff. No problems getting a mini cab in Luton.
But you then have to travel to Ipswich for matches! I get the best of both Cambridge and Norwich, the 2 best cities in East Anglia! By the way, I thought Luton already gained city status and the team stayed as Luton Town?
Ooooh you won the EA Derby... Ooooh we are so good... Ooooh we will win the Premier WAKE UP "NORFOLK n GOOD"
