I suggest you spend some time in the music business if you think X Factor is any different to the rest of it.

Fame without work? Since when is it hard work to smoke weed in your dad's garage, write a song in ten minutes and let a producer sprinkle studio fairy dust on your playground poetry product you've manufactured for mass consumption, which your record label will then market to the sheep who think what they listen to has any more credibility than X Factor?

A triple bill Monday night showcase is still an audition. When Billy 'Mr Socialism' Bragg slags off X Factor he's saying he doesn't want any redistribution of music biz wealth going to working class shelf-stackers who can sing far better than him. At least the shelf-stackers aren't being hypocritical.

So get ready to suck up that annual campaign to buy the Anti-X Factor Christmas single, like it's the X Factor single. It's a safe bet most people don't have any Rage Against the Machine product other than the one they were told to buy.

And where are RAtM now? They seem to have gone the way of some X Factor contestants. But hang on, surely that only happens on the X Factor, not in the 'other' music biz?

Anyway, I know more about the music biz than IPL so that's all I can contribute.
