I note with interest that Bob Moncur had a meeting with the club bigwigs and is apparently convinced that there will be significant investment in the club this Summer.
Personally I'm starting from a position of low expectation and anything more will be a bonus.
    What for you, represents significant?
I try to look beyond the £££ as there are often top players we can get on the cheap (Sissoko, Cabaye etc).
For me, excluding outgoings we need 2 decent cb's, a winger, a left back and a striker. All who are able to step straight into the first team.
    Thoughts?

I cannot trust anyone paid by the club. If these same club bigwigs simply spoke directly to the fans, or the press, I might give their words some credence. But from someone on the payroll? No, 'fraid not. I'd be frankly staggered if NET incomings are more than 2. We'll replace Santon and MYM, then swap a few others (Janmaat? Sissoko?)

Propaganda of the Goebbels variety, I'm afraid. Still, never underestimate the stupidity of people.

    http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015...e-when-quizzed-over-newcastles-summer-trans/?

Newcastle United chief Lee Charnley has assured Bob Moncur that the club will spend money in the summer, according to the club ambassador's comments in the Chronicle.

Moncur asked Charnley about the Magpies' summer plans recently and the latter expressed a desire to invest in the first-team squad.

“I asked Lee about investment in the squad in the summer and he reinforced the message that John Carver had already given," Moncur said. “We will be spending money in the summer to take the club forward.”

That will be good news for Newcastle fans, who have criticised the club for showing a lack of ambition during previous transfer windows.

The North East outfit have regularly sold their best players without adequately replacing them, and they have been punished for that strategy this season.

At the moment there are a number of holes in Newcastle's squad and they will need to rectify their existing problems over the summer.

That will mean that players need to be purchased in every department - with defenders, midfielders and strikers all needed if Newcastle are to meet expectations.

The club have been languishing in mid-table for too long and Newcastle supporters will be hoping that this summer's planned recruitment drive finally sees the Magpies move forward.

It's not and should never be a question of how much is spent. I don't have any issues either on net spend.

What we as fans should be looking for is the "correct" amount being spent whatever that might be on the "correct" players and getting the "correct" number of players in the "correct" positions.

It is the above general concept where the Club have sadly failed over the last number of years.

    Absolutely.
Not concerned with the figures but want the right quality and right numbers.
I'd like a couple of CBs, an imposing type (think Stamm or Vidic) and an assured type (Rio, Woodgate).
A really good, specialist, left back.
Not overly concerned with wingers if Aaron's can get fit and stays. Also would like to see Roberts given a chance. I just don't want to sigh when I see Gouffran starting.... Again.
I'd like to see a couple of genuine out and out strikers. An old school style and a poacher.

If we can get all that and Fatty turns a profit then so be it

And 3 centre midfielders of a good quality!
    Not much to ask!

Not too concerned with CM. Obviously I'd welcome back a Cabaye but I'm not too upset with Colback, Sissoko and Tiote. If any of them get sold then they'd need to be replaced with better

The most mediocre of midfielders going in the Premiership, oh and then no back up players! These three should be back up and we need 3 good players in front of them!

MA has suckled greedily on the teat of your optimism and left you dry. And sadly accurate.

Only really janmaat, krul and perez are quality. Colback is dependable. Sissoko only turns up when he wants. De Jong if he stays fit would be our best player. Aarons has potential. The rest are absolute garbage.

Rather than create a new thread, rumour from France is that this "investment" will begin in the form of bringing Jocelyn Gourvennec in as head coach.

This guy is a mid table manager in an average league... but n a plus side he isn't Carver.
I would have thought Marv would have put him off coming by now though.
I can see it now... this chap comes in.... signs lads f tall powerful players and we get tagged by the press 'Jossies Giants'.....
Fat Mike really would be getting inventive there....
Sign him up though- like I said he isn't Carver.

I expect that Ashley will sanction investment this summer.
    He sells Sissoko
    He sells Krul
    He sells Jannmat
    He sells Tiote
    He sells Perez
He sells Cisse ..... Oh and before l forget
and Aarons and hopefully all those who don't deserve to stay. ( some hope as nobody will want them)
Then he spends a fraction of the proceeds from the NUFC firesale. The reason he won't spend all the income, will be because " No Bugger wants to come and play" for him and his **** regime. As l have said before players with talent and integrity want to compete and win!
Not an ambition that is comparable with Newcastle United.
I fear we may find that Ashley's legacy has done more damage than we could possibly have imagined.

Ashley has turned the club i used to love into a huge pile of steaming excrement! I actually look forward to us getting a good rogering by other teams now. It used to be, "how many will we score today", nows its " how many will we concede" and " which piece of turd will look slightly polished today"!!
    Fecking hilarious!!!!
