Has there been a bigger turnaround for any City player ever? From much maligned 2nd string CM to skipper in a matter of months. Good luck to him, hope his form continues to improve
For what it's worth, I'll put my hand up here and say that I was initially critical of Markus as a player. I didn't think he had the fight in him. In the second half of last season, he proved me wrong. Happy to be wrong and just in my humble opinion, but I am glad he's captain and good luck to him.
I agree with this choice 100%. He's a great player. I'm so glad he proved a lot of people wrong, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he would come good, but just before he started to really excel I was starting to have doubts. Glad I was proven right in my initial assumptions. Just hope some of the ****s out there don't give him Meyler's ****ing stupid chant.
Seems like the best choice to me. Good player. Good attitude. Mentally strong to come from having half the stadium on his back to one of (if not the) best players for the second half of the season.
Best of luck to him. In fact, best of luck to all of 'em, I'm going into this season with optimism (as usual, probably misplaced but there you go).
This is going to give him an enormous boost as well, reminds me a bit of Jordan Henderson in physique
Same here. Looked like he was scared to tackle and didn't want the ball. Don't know what Adkins (maybe Henriksen? ) has done to him but now he is a battler and lead. Very good appointment
He's had some shocking moments But he was a quality player in netherlands Combination of settling in and adkins effect id say Good captain does henriksen make
“Of course, it is a big honour to be given the armband for such a big club like Hull City because it means I must have done something right,” he said. “Nigel wants me to wear the armband and I am ready to be a leader. I have been captain at two of my previous clubs, so I know what it is and what the role entails. “It is something special to wear the armband for a team in English football and I am determined to lead the side well. “Michael Dawson was a great captain here over the past couple of years but I will be a different type of leader to what he was. I can only do it my way. “Every team has different types of captains and leaders. Even though I’m young, I think I have a lot of experience that can help the team. “It will be great to lead the team out for the first time in a competitive game against Aston Villa, even more so if we perform as we hope and get the three points we are targeting.”
He may have been carrying an injury. Sometimes players are labeled as ****, when really they are are struggling. It wouldn't be the first time here.
I know it's a cliche, but the idea of settling into a different league really does have an effect too that I think a lot of people just instantly brush off as, just that, a cliche, and don't take it seriously. I do wonder how many of those random foreigners we had between 2010 and 2013 (like Pusic and Belaid, for example) who only played a handful of game could've been really decent players for us if given a bit more time. Probably not that amazing, but I do wonder.
It'll be interesting to see what sort of leader he'll be, if we as spectators can even see a difference.
The jury is still out for me on Henriksen. I wish him well and I hope the armband gives him the incentive to perform consistently. He went missing in too many games for my liking. Given our complete lack of depth in midfield, we simply can’t afford that this season.
I agree with this. I thought he was truly awful for a season and a half - didn't want to tackle or to want the ball. Hopefully he has turned the corner but hope being the captain doesn't mean he's not droppable if he doesn't maintain the improvement. Really hope it works out but definitely a lot to prove still.
never really got a chance to show it anywhere in that case, been at about 10 clubs since in obscure leagues like tunisia
Agree with this. Seems happier in the holding midfield, when we were told he was a number ten. Certainly improved under nige. That's what a good manager does though isn't it. He was probably lost under slutsky. If we're playing two holding midfielders we really need one to be a ball winner. Henriksen is more a nick the ball away as is Stewart. But we really don't have anyone else as yet. Unless Lichaj is the man for it.
