Why do you have such a problem with trying to stop stealing online?

Do you condone theft when it's in its physical form, ie. stealing DVDs from HMV?

I don't. I have a problem with a bill where the wording is so vague it would destroy freedom of speech on the Internet and do **** all to stop piracy.

SOPA is the first attempt by the Americans to police the internet. It's the start of a dangerous slope.

If this protest goes ahead the Internet will come to a standstill. Gotta love that.

Standstill? Hardly. It will be a minor inconvenience not being able to use google's search engine (which feeds almost all other search engines). That's it.

What about all the mopes with FB, Twitter and ebay addictions? There are millions of the ****ers not to mention the traders that rely on those sites and Amazon. Also how many people use Google's many services, gmail, google docs etc?

Traders do not rely on any of them. The public do. Business won't even ****in notice the blackout. With the exception of the minor inconvenience of not having a decent search enginge.

I'm pretty sure the blackout is just a statement. It redirects to a 'stop SOTA' blackout message but then clicking anywhere on that page returns you to the original site.

This isn't about piracy. Online piracy is only the ploy they are using to get the bill passed. The real intentions are the policing and censorship of the internet so to tackle websites such as wikileaks.

The full implications of this bill are frightening for the freedom of the only large remaining source of non mass media doctored information

Apparently SOPA has been shelved for now but PIPA is still out there.

I think you're bang on the money here, it's got bugger all to do with piracy, that's just something that'll get support from the already filthy rich and powerful.

As soon as groups like this get any power, they suddenly decide that they should impose their own morals on everyone else and before you know it, things like porn or sites like these are banned and we're in the same kind of boat as China.

I heard he accused Google of piracy <doh>

Some people don't seem to realise that free does not always equal pirate.

This is the attitude that got us the whole anti terrorism legislation etc.

This has affected 'non terrorists' more than any potential terrorists, it has also lead to innocent people being held without charge for years

same in america, the bill/laws have been used ti a large extent against the citizens and fook all to do with terrorism

The govts know though that if you push it right, 'do gooders' will come to their rescue

the result = everyone getting screwed
