Reading in the guardian, be fantastic if UEFA actually listen for once. Can't see it happening myself as their little darlings Barca/Madrid aren't in it.... Good read http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/apr/26/uefa-pardon-chelsea-bayern-union?newsfeed=true
It's win win for everyone but we all know Uefa are muppets and won't listen to solid reason. What is it about football authorities and lacking common sense? Surely if both clubs agreed to let each other's 3 players compete, where is the issue? I'm sure both clubs would agree to it. The rule is flawed and very unfair on players especially when yellow cards can be given for quite soft things. It would also present a better final as more top players would be competing which is surely in Uefa's interest. 100% this wont happen though.
Might happen......in future finals, but the rules were already in place so we won't be getting the benefit from it (this year). Can't see Bayern saying, "ok, 2 of your best players this season and in the ECL have been Rameries and Ivanovic, feel free to have them back in the team", not unless they had lost Robben & Ribery!
True. Much like video tech, Uefa will get their head out their arse eventually but too late for many players who will have missed the biggest games of their career. Imagine if it was a Barca / Madrid final and Ronaldo and Messi were missing. Wonder what Platini would do then?!?!
Too right, they'd be printed the new hand-written rules as we speak. We've just got to get on with it and pray that Luiz & Cahill make it through to the final and are fit to play the whole game.
It's a crap rule but you can't just change it in the middle of the tournament. Hypothetically, a losing semi-finalist may have not played players in the semi fearing they were on a yellow and would miss the final should they get there. I'd also get rid of the 5 yellow card rule in the league or at least make it a greater number required before getting a ban.
Yep, well said Watford. But surely it makes it less special if 6 key players are missing the biggest club competition in the world because of yellow cards? I totally agree with the red card side of things, JT for instance is out for a good reason, but simply arguing with the referee over a clear dive (Ivanovic for instance) is stupid!
I agree with Watford you can't just change the rule when it suits. If I go out and commit a crime I am aware of the consequences if I get caught or at least should be. Ramires, Ivanovic and Meireles should and would have known same with the Bayern players. Gustavo commited at least 3 or 4 cynical fouls to disrupt Real's rhythm before he was eventually booked. Rules are rules in my view however pathetic.
I agree changing the rules at this stage and letting all 6 off the hook would be wrong but maybe the opportunity to have them rescinded should be allowed, I mean in my view Ivanovic's card was terrible - Fabregas was the one in the wrong for diving, not Ivan.
I agree, I think Alaba in particular has a case, booked for something totally out of his control and in the view of everybody harshly penalised. Ivanovic and Alaba should have theirs rescinded but I don't think Ramires, Meireles, Badstuber and Gustavo have a case.
I agree to a point but ultimately the people that benefit the most from a ban are the opponents in the next game. Therefore given it's 3 players a piece, surely if both clubs agree to let the other team's 3 players play, what's the issue? If a ban still has to be served, let all 6 serve it next season. This isn't just a reaction to our situation, I've been saying this for years.
Seems a terribly harsh thing to impose on people who now miss what may be the biggest game of their careers , because some referee swishes cards around like confetti. Then again EUFA are not exactly famous for good referees, common sense or fairness.
