Sounds a bit odd Kiwi. You shouldn't have to assign a membership to anything, it's not a match ticket where you do have to assign it to a membership or season ticket. It's a long time since I've bought a new membership as mine have been renewals for years. I can't see why you can't just buy a membership, very odd. Try emailing them with your problem.
You have to open an account for him. I had the same problem with my boy. Just email the box office and they will open an account for you.
