A pet hobby horse of mine, but at least it’s a timely one. I cannot stand international breaks, or international football. I’d rather watch two ladybirds mating on a cactus than watch England beat some wretched ex Soviet basket case nation 8-0. It’s tedious in the extreme & I have no interest in it. God knows why the Home of Football has a German manager either, but that’s another matter. My real gripe is the way these incessant international breaks disrupt the domestic football calendar, which I think if are honest is what 95% plus of us are interested in.
Jack Charlton didn't do bad for the Republic of Ireland. I do not see a problem the national team being managed from another country.
We're on a hiding to nothing anyway. England are not going to win a World Cup under the conditions next year. Or the time after. FIFA have allowed the competition to become a corrupt farce. Acclamation? What a bunch of self-serving crooks.
Whenever Scotland or Wales get to a tournament, they stink the place out with their plodding anti-football. We ain't much better, to be honest. My money is on Cape Verde.
I'd not cross the road to watch England and do not care if they win a trophy or not. Club before country.
I watch the actual tournaments and always hope for a win, but I'd not watch a qualifier for all the tea in China.
I went to see England play a WC qualifier in 1989 at Wembley. It was a school trip. I believe it was against Turkey. Or maybe Albania. I remember Gazza ripping them to shreds and winning 5-0. The place was half empty. Edit: it was Albania.
Looking at the betting odds for the international games this week, 75% of them are a farce. Ireland v Armenia Andorra v Serbia Latvia v England etc, etc I mean …who cares ?
