Feel a bit guilty when we insult players that helped us get here. On Echo site, someone called a bunch of our players rubbish...too harsh...not good enough now perhaps, but all good servants in the past.
I like that "very few people are" line. I suspect it depends where you look! The population of Scotland may not be massive, but like the Irish, there do seem to be a lot of them outside Scotland as well. According to wikipedia there are between 28 and 40 million people worldwide with Scottish ancestry.
That's because in the USA anyone with a remotely Celtic sounding surname claims to be either Irish or Scottish. Makes about as much sense as me claiming to be a Viking, but at least it keeps the tartan industry in business.
Well, it makes considerably more sense seeing as how anyone in America who isn't an Indian is therefore descended from relatively recent immigrants. Many Americans only have to go back a few generations to find someone who wasn't born there, and in a nation of immigrants that is an important part of their identity. You or I would have to look back a lot further to find Viking ancestors, and most people wouldn't have them anyway.
