Dele Alli is copping it from the media and FIFA are said to be investigating. That's got to be a 3 game ban as FIFA attempt to look like they have some form of authority over the game.

From a Spurs point of view, no problem. Let someone else join in teaching him that this stuff is making him and his team mates suffer. We've got to deal with his 3 game UEFA ban. England can bear the same.

Potential suitors might be put off by a kid who keeps picking up stupid suspensions and it might slightly limit his profile outside the game for a while. None of which is a bad thing. It might make him focus on playing and he could do with it right about now.

Bruce Arena has pulled the mother of all preemptive excuses as their chances of automatic qualification for next year's World Cup hang in the balance: he's said that Trump's immigration policies are serving as a catalyst for the USPUBG's opponents, which would explain dropping six points to Costa Rica, four to Mexico and (so far) two to Panama.

It could also be the fact that they're not very good, of course...

I think that South Korea just qualified with a 0-0 draw against Uzbekistan.
Son had a decent chance to win it at the end, but one of his teammates got in the way and he shot wide.

I hear a large shipment of kimchee is heading for Tehran as we speak.

The final Asian spot will be decided by a play-off between Syria and one of Australia or our ISIS-finding, 9/11 planning, migrant murdering, human rights abusing allies known as Saudi Arabia. Guess who I'll be supporting?

Erm, I've got some bad news for you, Croydon:

    A translation's probably unnecessary, isn't it?

Spain are now 7 - 0 up against Lichtenstein. There are no easy games left in international football.

But it's still nice for these tiny countries to represent themselves at World level.
I'm a Gibraltar freak.Been there thrice and a serious collector of their stamps.
The thought of going for breakfast in the Caletta Palace with the sun coming up from N Africa was wonderful........and four brothers that I became friends with and mad on football (the Florido brothers) that lived in Chesnut Road in Tottenham, all came from Gibraltar.
    Aren't memories wonderful......sometimes!

Argentina came up short again last night drawing 1-1 at home with Venezuela, who are rock bottom of ten nations in the South American qualifying group. They are in significant danger of failing to make it to the WC.

I read an article a few days ago by one of their top football writers, about our new signing One Fourth. It said that there is a bit of a dearth in talent in the youth ranks in Argentina and he is seen as THE FUTURE of their defence. Given that they are currently relying on Fazio.........yes, that Fazio, there's a fair chance that our young man could be playing international games sooner rather than later. That's probably not ideal, especially for a defender, but what can you do?

    There are far less though.
Countries like Iceland and Albania have become competitive - more than a match for the mighty England these days.

Sure, but quite a few achieved it by playing ultra-negative, overly physical football. I didn't bother watching the game against Malta. What's the point? The result is a foregone conclusion and the football is unexciting.

The 48 team World Cup will feature a significant number of games that nobody gives one hoot about, let alone two. The likelihood is that they will play to empty stadiums and FIFA will have unnecessarily created the problem that the Rugby World Cup is plagued by. Of course, there will be the odd success but the general trend is for more mediocrity. It's the Champions League all over again. More matches between mismatched sides. I'd happily back a bigger tournament if it was going to be a straight knock out format........but it isn't and it'll strangle what used to be something great.

Whatever it's failings, football is a truly global sport.
Rugger is a throwback to Empire. Damn colonials putting the Empire in its place though from what I've seen.
And it doesn't even recognise Irish independence.
The Rugby World Cup is confirmation that, however much FIFA try to f*** it up, only one sport can legitimately hold a world tournament.

Surely it's that it didn't recognise the undemocratic division of Ireland?

...thanks for reminding me that Hollywood's latest genius idea is an all-female Lord of the Flies.

    No, I'm not joking.
