Here we are without another game until Friday 19th against Luton. No doubt a feisty affair looming. No time travel this time but a new identity! You can choose to be anyone you like in history. Who would you choose and why? Of course it's easy to just go for a very wealthy individual but if you do that you must say why and what you'd do with all that dosh. I've not decided yet so will post in due course.
Easy, Harry Redknapp. Because I guarantee you that if I was him I'd have bought the players and played the right system to suit them that would've kept us in the Premier league to this day ! None of this Clint Hill marking Lius Suarez or having one of the best wing backs in the world playing on the opposite side. The lack of use of Vargas was also criminal, and they'd of been no last paydays for all his past it old cronies. Oh if only
I had the Rodney Marsh / Stan Bowles / Adel Tarrabt debate in my head (it was brilliant, but you didn’t want to be there); I had the Jimi Hendrix idea swirling around for a mind-bending half hour - it was egotistical self-indulgence of the highest level. Then I thought of Richard Branson’s island - the thoughts of poncey food and wine ; a private jet for every bucket list gig I wanted to go to whenever I wanted and finally the days of just chilling around the pool/hot tub/steam room/gym, enjoying the warmth of the sun, the Poole, no ‘noise’, no life pressures, the pool and a poncey breakfast, no ****ing politicians to screw up my day, clear night skies, poncey dinner with poncey wine, a studio to just make what the **** I like/how I like/when I like, and a big dollop of hedonism … ah whenever! Selfish? Absolutely! Ignorant? - hell yeh! Egocentric? - who said it was about anyone else! Irresponsible? - yeh, but I’m sure one of you will save the world - let me have fun
What about Neil Armstrong ? The first human being to step foot on another planet ! Now that's pretty cool
A natural satellite is good enough in my book lol. I'm still waiting for William Shatner to be the first person to walk on Mars !
The idea of 'no noise' is ultra appealing, except of course nature noises - birds, rain etc. My daughter was at Uni with his daughter. They were acquaintances but not close friends so she missed out on the invite to Necker!
I think for me it would have to combine 'cool' with other desirable characteristics. I like the idea of performing and holding the power of performance over thousands of people. Wealth would naturally accompany that but I'd hate to be a wealthy air-head with the intellectual capability of a mollusc. Therefore I'm going for Brian May. 1. Hugely talented and playing God Save the Queen rock style on the roof of Buck Palace was ultra cool! Back in the day, Queen playing to tens of thousands! 2. I'm sure he's very 'comfortably' off. Maybe not Necker Island wealthy but I suspect he could visit / hire it whenever he wanted to. 3. PhD in Astrophysics!! What's not to love? If I was being ultra altruistic, maybe someone like Fleming discovering Penicillin and saving millions of lives over the years. He did get a Nobel Prize in 1945 (but only one third of it) and I doubt he'd ever get to Necker!!
If not Neil Armstrong, then ALBERT EINSTEIN. A uniquely intelligent physicist who revolutionised modern science and became a household name. He was very influential beyond the scope of science. An incredible and influential talent living at a very difficult time.
Good shout. Being in Queen playing at Live Aid, performing one of the greatest live performances ever......that would be so cool.
Winston Churchill...waking up on the September 3rd 1945, reading the paper in bed and thinking...'Yep...won that war, what's next?'
