Our points difference would be 9 (25 to 16) and we'd be languishing in midtable if the games lasted the 2nd 45 minutes! Whilst last season Spurs made a name for themselves of being the comeback team, it seems that this season its the opposite. Barring our last game where we did come from behind to win, we have never gone behind to win. Amazingly, Man City have nearly 3x as many goals in the 2nd half than the 1st (31 to 12) What's even more amazing is that Lucas is the best tackeler in the PL!!!!! Lets keep up the good work and make sure that we add a win to both halves of this table next week against Bolton!
HI Lotak, I'm not sure how relevant this stat is. Since we started our great run we have dropped just two points from a winning position and of course as every game starts level we have gained 18 points from drawing positions. Furthermore, we have gained 3 points from a losing position. If you go in at HT and are 2-0 up and eventually win 2-1, effectively you have won both halves as the aim is to win over 90 mins. Of course teams who are losing will come after you, that's what the Prem is all about. I have no problems about our second half performances at all during this great run of ours, we have done the job needed, often scoring the final goal.
I know its not *too* relevant, but I think its interesting. Could it possibly bear some resemblence to Spurs taking their foot off the peddle in the 2nd half when opening up a lead? You would also think that, with teams trying to get back in the game they'd leave behind lots of gaps in the midfield and defence which, with players like Lennon, Bale and Modric, would be much easier to penetrate!! Anyways, as long as we keep up the form, it doesn't bother me too much if our 2nd half performances don't quite match up with the 1st half performances. But still, would be nice to really finish teams off and have a goal difference that matches (at least) Utd's.
I agree with that on this one LDL. I'm a great fan of stats, but to think a team that wins a game has 'lost' a half really makes little sense and is certainly not particularly relevant. See the difference in a team's faces when they go off haing 'lost the second half' 1-0 to win 2-1 overall. Are the actual winners sad they lost the second half, are they *****. Are the 'second half winners' happy the won a half, are they **** This season we don't have to prform the come-back heroics we did last season, because we're better this season The wBA game shows though, we can do come-backs if required.

Fair enough Lotak, but I honestly don't think it's that interesting, and I love stats, but this one's not that not that relevant. We have in fact been scoring goals in second half on the counter when 'under the cosh', eg Saturday, Fulham, QPR, Blackburn. According to the stats we 'drew the second half' in those last 3 games, but clearly, in reality, we didn't, we won the second halves because we won the games. Similarly, we 'drew the second half' v Villa, did we ****. We won both halves at a canter, and had the game completely under control after an initial worrying first five minutes. Also as I've stated before, I couldn't care less about GD, points are the key not GD.
Exactly, if you win the game, you win both halves. Of course, if you are behind you need to put in the extra effort, this is usual.
I think that teams try to contain us in the first half and the open up more in the second, once they're behind. We tend to start at a furious pace too, which is hard to maintain for 90 minutes. As counter-intuitive as it sounds, managers whose team are behind at half-time often have the easier job. They have to change things and it's easier for them to highlight mistakes and problems, as there will have been more of them.
As long as the final whistle blows for a Spurs win, the stats don't bother me too much really. Only stat I really like hearing is 9 wins from 10

A common pattern has been Spurs overwhelming the other team in the first half. At halftime the other team gets good and steamed and comes out playing very hard. I'd like that pattern to continue. It's an interesting point. I found myself wishing Parker wouldn't play so hard for so long against Spain, and, had a similar feeling about Bale against Aston Villa. With Bale it wasn't the effort--he'd been torturing Villa's right backs regularly, and very late one of them fouled him in a fairly vicious way. Of course he shouldn't have done that, but taking it a little easier with a late lead, or subbing Bale late may be good precautions.
Most interesting stat I've seen is that we've had 18.5 shots per game this season on average. That's 2nd only to Man City in the whole of Europe. So that means more than Barcalona, Real Madrid et al. Quite impressive...
I think that was Petrov, down in their left-back position, if I remember right. Dirty bastard got frustrated at how **** Villa had been and took the rare opportunity of being able to actually get near to enough one of our players to take him out. Ironically missed their game against Swansea through injury.
