According to the Daily Mail: One of Torres's team-mates said: 'He has always been a complex character. He is so naturally gifted he's always been totally self-absorbed. 'For the first year we'd put his quietness down to a lack of fluent English, but then he'd come out with something word perfect, which made you realise he understood what was going on all the time. 'It wasn't shyness, more aloofness. And on the pitch he'd definitely play for himself rather than the team. Even the real pros like Stevie Gerrard and Jamie Carragher noticed it but when Torres is on top form you'd forgive him anything. 'But his efforts for the team this season under Roy Hodgson made everyone notice. His Prozone stats for some games were laughable for a Premier League striker. He has always been admired by his teammates, but not loved. He hasn't endeared himself in the way that Pepe Reina has, for example.' Wonder who it was? Not Reina, Gerrard or Carragher going by the references.
How do you know? I was actually thinking of him when I read it. I knew it had to be an English-speaking player who'd been around the first team a few seasons.
because aside from reina dirk is the closest thing to a scouser and he was pushed out right wing to accomodate torres so id say no love lost there
I cannot wait for the books Stevie G and Carra put out when their career is acutally over and the inside info is out and about...... will really shed light on the last few years. Has to be Dirk by the way, they have to have been there, but could have been Babel in one of his tweets.....
I suspect if you took a look at the Prozone stats for every striker under Roy who isn't a perfect fit like Zamora it'd be the same. Tomkins had a piece on how the heat maps for Torres in front of goal were as they ever were under Hodgson but the problem was he wasn't in front of goal nearly as much as he was in the centre circle waiting for a long ball to chase.
