https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/spo.../hull-city-man-southgate-championship-8302486 pleased to see Ingram in this, a really interesting group of stats as well, especially the passing one as a lot have been criticising him on that part of his game. Hopefully we sign Darlow in the summer as I think that gives us 2 fantastic championship keepers backed up by a number a very good youngsters
I’m sure England have called up Championship keepers in the past. Great to see his good work being recognised this season.
Couldn’t see any recently. Last one was Alan Hodgkinson who I think, though I may be a season out, got his first cap when Sheff Utd were in Dvision 2 but they got promoted that year and were in Div 1 when he won most of them. Reg Matthews won 3 caps whilst Coventry were in Div 2 in 1955. Most surprising is Luton who had two different keepers, Bernard Streten and Ron Baynham, win one cap each in 1949 when they were in Division 3 South.
Wasn't San Johnstone the third choice keeper quite recently while at West Brom in the Championship? I remember him playing against San Marino or Andorra or one of them, and assisting Grealish to score with a mammoth throw out after collecting a cross.
he played in the prem the season he got called up, they got relegated that very season i do think jack butland got a call up while in the champ though
I’m sure that Andorra game he played in was in the September at the start of last season and WBA had just come down.
It was Andorra. Just checked, Johnstone was indeed playing for WBA in the Championship when he was called up. David Nugent and Jay Bothroyd also got call ups in the Championship. To be fair, if the opposition is lower ranked, especially against a small nation, Championship players are more than capable.
Apparently, in the England games just gone, if we got a keeper injury then Sunderland's keeper was next in line for a call.
