I don't agree with the premise and I quote "The tractorboys in the short term will lose more games then they win". That's clearly a load of rubbish as we have already notched 4 wins and a draw under MM already!

I have picked 3 quotes that I feel sum the situation up perfectly in my opinion..

"razor-sharp tactical thinking has never been part of his skill set in any case. That’s not to portray McCarthy as a mug when it comes to the subtleties of the chalkboard and the technical area, he’s just not at the high-end of a very competitive profession in that department"

"Instead, McCarthy is a creature of culture, a proponent of value-judgement and long-term thinking. He comes into a club and implements a philosophy that, over time, will become ingrained with players following a code of conduct that doesn’t need explaining repeatedly It’s an approach that, once established, serves a team well in any context for as long as natural ability meets the standard required for the task at hand."

"In the short term, the Tractor Boys might still lose more matches than they win, but now they ought to lose them with more honesty."

The first quote is part of the reason of my hesitancy to get on the 'McCarthy train' before he was appointed with the second quote being the reason why he is a good manager and a good fit for us right now. The third quote being what we were all hoping for this season after the thrashings we suffered last term and I think we as fans know we will lose a fair few matches but we want to know that we lost not because we were utterly hopeless but instead we're beaten although fighting to the very end with our victors having to work their bloody socks off to get anything from us.

Indeed KOPR. IMO there are managers who if they get it right it can be really good, for example I think if PJ would have managed to pull things around we would've done really well. If we would have appointed Holloway it could've gone spectacularly wrong or it could've been the making of us.

Under Mick I honestly do not feel we are in danger of being relegated and I think he will do well with us but with Mick there comes a sense of realism where you think, yes he probably could get us into the PL but we'd be a struggling PL side (I'd take that obviously) but with some of the other managers I tend to think the sky could be the limit. Mick seems very solid and as this piece alludes to, he keep things simple and gets the best out of what he's got, he doesn't run before he can walk, whereas I think PJ often tried to run before we could stand up!!!

The thing in the back of my mind is (I know we don't have to worry about this atm) but all of MM PL teams have been pretty uninspiring and I don't want an ITFC team to be like that. I'd rather see us perhaps do a Blackpool have a real go at PL teams rather than cling on for PL status for a few years just trying to grind out results.

I really am baffled by so many people saying MM isn't a very good PL manager. I don't think it's something we need to worry about just yet...

I think it is relevant. Sir Alf, Sir Bobby and Georgie B all took us up from the second tier before performing their heroics at the highest level.

As far as I'm concerned what's going on now is all a lot better than the nonsense we had before but it's not particularly relevant in the long term unless we start building a team of our own players and we're back in the top flight in a couple of years' time.

As JWM mentioned on another thread we took for granted that our club meant something, I grew up with that and despite all that's gone on our current predicament still feels like a temporary blip to me.

You said that you don't want an ITFC team to be pretty uninispiring and so I ask you where have you been over the last 5 years! Simple enough question.
