https://www.skysports.com/football/...ink-sparked-by-his-eredivisie-form-at-vitesse Another one who got away ? Fair play to the lad for turning his game around, probably return to England in the Premier League for 20+ million
Good luck to him, it's great to see him doing well over there, but he's never a Premier League player.
I think it’s amazing that our sportsmen seem so thick and unworldly compared to other countries. Surely part of all that intensive work done in the academy includes books on sports psychology and even autobiographies of great sportsmen At least that would keep their interest I would think.
Think the same when you watch the footballers from Africa talking on TV in English, a foreign language for many and only one of four or five some can speak, and the same for ones from South America and Europe. As Our players go to another country for 6 years and more and make no effort to speak the language.Same with managers, Hodgson stands out as as one who can speak a few languages as a rare exception. Notice he had never heard of Arnhem. You can bet he knows all about Omaha Beach and bleeding Band Of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan though. Of course if you show any signs of intelligence or read anything more challenging than a comic you are considered some sort of effete homosexual as happened with Le Saux.
Why not? It sounds like he's improved. We only got to see him in the early stages of his career. He's still young and will be a very different player now. Josh King was never a Premier League player when he was with us, among quite a few others.
Possibly, but he was 22 when he left us and he's only 23 now, King was 20 when he came to us, he's 27 now. Also worth remembering that the The Eredivisie is the league that made Jozy Altidore look like a world beater.
Maybe he’s a late bloomer but I saw him plenty for the reserves as well and I agree with olm. But hope he does it. Least he is a city fan.
I always think it's a bit harsh to say that pretty much anyone isn't a Premier League (or Championship) player. With the right coach, set-up/formation and team-mates I dare say he'd be fine. Look at Andy Robertson. No one would quite have predicted he'd become on of the best full-backs in Europe two years ago. And had, say, West Ham or somebody outbid Liverpool he wouldn't have got close. But he got all the things I've listed and it's allowed him to blossom. I think Clark has the makings of a very good player based on what I've seen, and in the right environment could do well in the Premier League.
I think it could be the case, as others have hinted at, that this could be the move that makes him. We've seen it many times before, with many different players, that a certain club/coaching staff/match experiences just accelerate development. Slutsky obviously saw a lot in him, as I'd have thought 400k to Vitesse wouldn't just be pocket change. Plus, Clark himself spent a lot of time in England Youth - again, valuable experience. I hope he goes stellar. Didn't get the sense it was like the Tymon situation, not in the aftermath either.
I wish Max all the best. Moving away from the area has removed the distractions living at home can create. He’s clearly benefited from it and I wish him all the best of success.
Remember someone linked with the youth & scouting side telling me that he was the stand-out talent and was destined to make it. Maybe the timing and situation wasn't quite right when he made his brief break through to the 1st team with us. Doesn't surprise me that he appears to be developing / maturing into a very decent player over there. Our loss.
