What a rip.... In the last week I have had house insurance renewal (Hastings Direct) up £132.00 on last year... I called them of course and they said 'its due to an increase in claims'... my response of course was 'not from me you haven't'... after a minutes keyboard tapping they came back and said if w increase it by £11 is that ok!!!! Then this morning, car insurance. (Direct Line) up £189 on last year, no claims and haven't had for the best part of 15 years. I called them and pointed out that on Money Supermarket there were 23 quotes cheaper than yours and they came back (keyboard tapping) and said £28 more... The reason I write this is that both of them were on automatic renewal. I'm sure everyone checks, but life sometimes gets in the way... just make sure you do...
My car insurance doubled from last year to this. Did money supermarket etc and that was still the cheapest.
My house insurance went up £280, I use a broker and they couldn't find a cheaper alternative, I had a look myself and couldn't find a better option either, so had to go ahead (though they didn't say it was anything to do with increased claims, they said it was down to the increased cost of building materials).
I must agree with the comment about materials,I have a roofing company and prices this last couple of years have gone through the roof .
With One Call renewed last week checked around everyone quoting £410 or so inc One call , rang them and they said just renew my current deal went up £35 , so about £285
My car insurance renewal price, with LV, was £180 more than last year, non-negotiable. Found a cheaper one on a comparison site, £50 up on last year. This was with Post Office Money, underwritten by, guess who, LV. Don't ask me how it works. For some reason my motorbike insurance actually came down this year, also with Post Office Money.
House insurance with LV up 40%. Rang and asked if they could do any better. No. Went elsewhere and it was cheaper than LV two years ago. Anybody with an EV having insurance increases? https://www.theguardian.com/money/2...c-vehicle-owners-face-soaring-insurance-costs
Got my buildings insurance quote. Up by about 20%...Went on line, via Go Compare, got it down by about 40%. Just goes to show going on-line can get the best price.
Car insurance gone through the roof too. Still looking around for better deals, but there’s not many out there
I always go on compare websites now. Find you can often get a cheaper price than a renewal quote. There’s no reward for loyalty and no claims.
got a renewal quote of £180. in between the quote and taking up the offer, my car was hit - while i was driving it - by a car, probably stolen, that had refused to stop for the police and was trying to get away from them. it tried to overtake me where it wasn't possible, effectvely writing my car off, and it also smashed into a far newer parked car. i rang the insurance to report it and renewed at the same time. soon after got a message saying they'd revised my renewal quote to £240 so wanted another £80. despite me getting a police incident number and being told the police have insurance for that kind of thing, the insurance company wouldn't claim against that police insurance.
I always set a yearly reminder on my phone when it comes to car insurance, this year, it went up £300, so I rang them & they said there was nothing less with them, so I cancelled it & went with another company. House insurance, I left with the wife, she let it auto renew, only £100 odd, so I thought, ah, sod it, even though last year, the boiler had a leak & they wouldn’t do anything. Luckily a mate works in the industry, so we got him to sort it out. The final straw for us was this year, we had a leak in the bathroom & rang up, they said, the phone line was only to help out with filling in online forms, it’s such a stupid thing, they wouldn’t send out anyone to have a look without filling in online form, so filled it in & someone comes out, “well it’s not worth going through the insurance, just pay for it yourself!” Insurance cancelled, ended up, just getting a new bathroom fitted. Insurance is the biggest scam there is, but everyone’s tied into it.
I got a new car half way through my policy this year, it’s 12 insurance groups lower than the old one. Still had to pay a few hundred £ to see out the rest of the policy AND they have taken the driving other cars perk off me, so I can no longer drive anyone else’s vehicle unless I’m a named driver on their policy. Absolute ****ing joke.
Car insurance renewal up by 30%, looked elsewhere and the cheapest online was 56% more expensive. First time in my life I'm actually renewing rather than cancelling and going elsewhere. Similar story with house insurance.
