Mrs CT bought me a couple of George Gently books for Christmas. Now in view of the TV series I had always assumed that it was set in Geordieland. In fact Alan Hunter the writer(Not the Binners hooligan) wrote for the EDP and set all his novels in Norwich - which he calls Norchester.

The first one written in 1955 "Gently does it" has references to Norwich City, centering around a 3-1 win where the timing of the goals are crucial to the plot.King Street becomes Queen Street and up the hill is Burgh St (Ber St) It's actually a fascinating piece of Norwich history.Mrs CT reckons it was re-sited to Newcastle because Norwich had insufficient old venues left to film in.I reccommend it,abouyt thirty novels written between 1955 and early 80's.
