This is the important point to me. Klopp is a manager, in the old sense of the word, and not just someone who assembles a team like in an online game. Yes, he'll spend money when he identifies the need, but he isn't someone who just tries to collect the "best" players available from the top level and hope that that makes a team.
It seems he's made the squad feel like a family again in a way I haven't seen for many years. Whether that is enough to defeat the chequebook management style in the long run remains to be seen, but he's doing ok so far.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Mohamed Salah is over his ankle problem.

The Liverpool star initially picked up the injury in October in the win over Leicester and has been struggling since then.

But he has been back to full fitness in recent weeks, scoring twice against Watford on Saturday after his fine effort in the Champions League in Salzburg.

Klopp insists Salah is now raring to go ahead of the festive period and will be key to his side's Club World Cup campaign in Qatar.

"It is our life, it is the life of a footballer. You get a knock, but you don't have time really to deal with it," Klopp said.

Not good then. I expect at least another signing and possibly a loan deal. We can’t afford to let our injury list detail the season.

    Jordan Henderson fitness update

Jürgen Klopp expects Jordan Henderson to be fine after the captain was forced from the field with a knock in the final stages of Liverpool’s 4-0 win at Leicester City on Boxing Day.

A challenge with Ayoze Perez left the midfielder in visible pain and he was replaced by Adam Lallana after receiving treatment in the 82nd minute at King Power Stadium.

However, asked in his post-match press conference whether Henderson was OK, Klopp replied: "Yes. [It was a kick] on the shin.

“It was bleeding but he told me afterwards ‘I could have carried on!’, so obviously it is not so bad this time

Jürgen Klopp offers Xherdan Shaqiri fitness update

Xherdan Shaqiri could be sidelined for at least a week with a minor hamstring injury, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.

The No.23 was forced to sit out Sunday's 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League due to the issue.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the Wolves win, Klopp said: "Shaqiri should have started but last night he felt a little bit the hamstring.

"Now he's out, not for long but maybe a week or 10 days."

Jürgen Klopp on Naby Keita injury scan and LFC fitness latest
Naby Keita will undergo a scan today on the groin injury he sustained on Thursday night.

The Liverpool midfielder suffered the issue during the warm-up before the 2-0 win over Sheffield United at Anfield and Jürgen Klopp confirmed immediately after the game that Keita would miss this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Everton.

Asked for the latest on the No.8 at his pre-match press conference, the manager said: “[We are] not wiser with Naby [yet] because he will have a scan today, I don’t know exactly when but somebody will then tell me the result of this. That didn’t happen yet.”

On the other injuries in his squad, Klopp added: “I spoke pretty much to all of them in the last minutes. They all look good.

“Shaqiri looks good; in a good way, will not be available for [Sunday] but looks good. Oxlade looks good. Joel looks good. Dejan Lovren, spoke last night, looking good. Fabinho out on the pitch doing the running stuff.

“They are really all in a good way, our only problem is the games are coming so quick, that’s why there’s no real news. Most of them will not be available for [Sunday].

“But then from today on we have eight days until the next game, so we will see what’s then possible.”

    James Milner injury update

Liverpool are waiting to discover the extent of a muscle issue that forced James Milner from the field in the early stages of Sunday’s 1-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Everton.

The No.7 was required to limp out of the action after just nine minutes of play at Anfield having picked up an injury during an attempted challenge.

Milner will now be assessed by the club’s medical department to determine the severity of the problem.

Jürgen Klopp told his post-match press conference: “Two players started the last game and one of them got injured, so that’s the situation we are in. That’s why a lot of managers make a lot of changes; it’s nothing to do with the cup, it’s the timing.

“[Milner] has pain, that says it’s serious. It’s [his] muscle.”
