Reds have double injury concern for first friendly at Chester
Joel Matip won’t feature in Liverpool’s friendly against Chester FC on Saturday and Adam Lallana is also likely to miss out, writes James Pearce.

Former Cameroon international Matip has been building up his fitness since recovering from surgery on the thigh injury he sustained against Crystal Palace in March but won’t return to full training until next week.

Lallana, who missed out on a place in England’s World Cup squad after an injury-plagued 2017/18 season, has been hampered by illness this week.

Matip is injured, we need to buy a defender???.

Jürgen Klopp offers Joel Matip injury update

Liverpool will need to wait to discover the extent of the muscle injury Joel Matip sustained during the International Champions Cup tie with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday night.

The centre-back limped out of the action after 22 minutes of the 3-1 defeat to the German club at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

The Reds' medical staff will now assess the issue before determining how severe it is, although it is hoped it is not serious.

Jürgen Klopp told his post-match press conference: “It’s not the same injury. It’s another muscle – it looks like, hopefully, only a little tear.

“We will see, but we cannot say anymore about it now. It is of course the most negative thing about the day. It’s not cool. Things like this can happen, but you don’t want them to.

“Maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we will know more, but in this moment we only know that it was too painful for him to carry on.”

Lovren has a mystery stomach injury. Sounds like a hernia as it is a muscle injury. He can't train and has difficulty getting in and out of a car. Sounds like he will be missing for some time. This should give a chance for Gomez to show what he can do in his favoured position

He declared himself fully fit a few days ago ... then says he’s playing through pain and could miss the start of the season once the window is closed ...

    Convenient

No he didn't, he said he could play at thirty minutes notice. Ie it takes thirty minutes for the painkiller to kick in

Jürgen Klopp offers Dejan Lovren injury update

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed Dejan Lovren is facing a short spell on the sidelines due to a pelvis issue, but doesn't expect to be without his services for too long.

The centre-back, who returned to Melwood earlier this week to begin pre-season preparations after helping Croatia to the World Cup final, is likely to miss Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures due to the problem.

However, Klopp is anticipating Lovren will be back in training shortly, telling his post-match press conference following the Reds’ win over West Ham United: “He is not fit. Let me say it like this, last year he already had a few problems with that but he could obviously play - and played really good.

“Recovery days were always enough then it was not a problem and he was in the next session again. We did not train a lot in the end of the season, of course, because we were more or less constantly playing, but he played constantly.

“Now in the World Cup, [playing] three times [for] 120 minutes it got a bit worse, but I am pretty sure it will settle in the next one, two or three weeks. In that time he can probably for sure train already, but not the full programme, so that will then take time.

“In the end, it is serious but not that serious, so it’s not that we need to be afraid that it will take him until whenever. In the moment he
    is not available, that’s true.”

    Lallana injury news
Adam Lallana has handed Liverpool an early injury scare by withdrawing from training with England.

Lallana was recalled to the Three Lions squad by national team boss Gareth Southgate having missed the World Cup through lack of fitness after an injury-hampered 2017-18 campaign.

    Lallana withdraws from England squad

Adam Lallana has withdrawn from the England squad and returned to Liverpool after sustaining a groin strain in training.

The Reds midfielder had been recalled to Three Lions duty by Gareth Southgate for games against Spain and Switzerland in the coming week.

However, England confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Lallana requires further assessment on the groin issue and will not be involved in those matches.

    Don’t worry - he’ll be like a new signing when he’s back.

Liverpool confirm another injury blow ahead of Tottenham showdown
LIVERPOOL ace Simon Mignolet has been ruled out of international duty with Belgium and returned to Merseyside.

    UPDATE:

    Simon Mignolet injury update

Simon Mignolet has withdrawn from the Belgium squad due to injury.

The Liverpool goalkeeper had been called up by Roberto Martinez for the friendly with Scotland and subsequent UEFA Nations League tie against Iceland.

But the injury has ruled Mignolet out of the fixtures with his country. The 30-year-old is expected to be available when the Reds return to action at Tottenham Hotspur next weekend, however.
