Heartbreaking yesterday, just watched the highlights and you can see Nels make a grab for his left thumb after the initial goal. Didn't see the Cody injury but the stretchering off and strapping on the knee doesn't sound all that comfortable. Hopefully the injuries aren't as bad as initially thought and they both make a speedy recovery as arguably they were our two most influential players last season. Taylor has said that we may have to sign a goalkeeper on loan. Gazza? As for the striking dept it seems German may have his chance. Hopefully he can grab it with both hands. UTG.
Saturday was a difficult one to take. I always thought we would lose, MK Dons are a good side who i expect to see in the play offs this year, despite they're terrible fan base for such an impressive ground. However, in the first half we were brilliant, relatively comfortable at the back (apart from Hause who is terrible) and very dangerous going forward. Absolutely disgusted with how their keeper managed to stay on the pitch, what a joke that was. Unfortunately as soon as their 1'st goal went in, which was awful, and then when Nelson and Cosy went off that was that. The fact we lost didn't dishearten me, the injuries really have though. To me, our best 2 players are now out which could really mean we struggle for the games when they are both not around, which i really think could be a long while. Shame to have so much confidence sapped after 1 game due to nothing of our own doing.
Simeon is still a free agent i believe?...if cody is out log term he might want to help out his old club and play a few months for nothing. *i then wake up *
Gees G-M-A-D, That's a big statement about a 19-y-o making his debut in a new defence. Especially as there have been a few fans suggest he didn't have a bad debut and looks strong in the air and composed on the ball. Would "didn't have a good game" have been a more appropriate comment rather than "is terrible". Or is that it after 1 game? He's rubbish.
I think a lot of people need a reality check. One game doesn't define a season and we can take far more positives from this defeat than we could last season against Colchester. It's going to be a tough season like ever year but I saw far more quality in the first half than for 90% of the games last season. Some need to stop being so fickle.
Batchinator am i being fickle by saying we played well in the first half and that the result hasn't left me disheartened, merely the injuries sustained by our best 2 players? Please read what i've written. Keefy, were you there? I'm sorry but from what i saw he looked very poor, what was missing wasn't fitness, it was a complete lack of positional play and the ability to make the right decision, Egan i like, Legge was very good in the first half and Martin was Martin, Hause i'm afraid was poor. I'll always follow my team, more than most on here (please read that i've said most and by no means all) therefore if me making a comment about the ability of 1 player and the fact that im concerned by injuries to oue 2 best players leaves me requiring a reality check then what will you say to my comments when I actually do moan about a performance?!
Gills man ant dog maybe I should have been more specific but I wasn't actually referring to your comment, more the fickle comments before it.
Ok in that case apologies for jumping to conclusions. Harry, i also read that, and hope that it's true but he looked in real agony on Saturday.
Update from the injuries - Nelson Ligament damage and 3 months out probably. Cody swollen knee and ankle....'out for a while'
This is not good. Regardless of me having wanted German to get a chance, i never would have wanted fate to deal us this card. As for Nelson this is our worst injury nightmare. Actually this minute just seen the video on TV where he done his thumb in the game.
Nelson could be a bigger miss than Cody but both are such key players. Glenn Morris has got over 200 appearances at this level so hopefully he will be decent cover. More pressure on Kedwell to get the goals now though.
Think we definitely need two new players Morris seemed okay but would rather have someone else come in as I feel Nels is a long term one considering if his hand isn't 100% he isn't anywhere near selection! Cody doesn't seem too bad just a bit sore but German didn't seem to carry a single ounce of threat so maybe another striker could be useful. Without wishing to regress Hause was truly disgracefully bad, didn't want to try and ability seemed to be lacking as well. Please let's not stick with him!
Strange thing is Hause was considered man of the match by some, just goes to show how different people can see things different ways.
I guess it comes down to personal opinion I just deem Hause to look the part but simply be incapable of walking the walk. Maybe it's because I decided to sit lower down near the pitch so maybe he looked worse from there. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I could well be in the wrong but I struggle to see how his performance could be seen to anything approaching mediocre never mind good!
With all due respect Luke, Morris and Hause have had one game. Hause was probably nervous considering he's 19 and Morris had 45 minutes, none of the goals he could have done anything about. We aren't really in a position to judge the players until after about 10 games.
I don't buy into this not being able to judge after 10 games lark, Hause was poor, i wasn't convinced by Morris therefore that's my judgement as i see it. Do trialists get 10 games to perform before a contract? No. The managers mind is made up well before that time. If you're talking of judging a team on how they will perform in a season then 10 games i suppose is relevant, however to caveat that i saw enough in the first 45 on saturday to convince me we would stay up, but then Cody and Nelson got injured so now im not so sure!
G-M-A-D, I've no problem with any of you guys that were there saying Hause had a terrible game. That's a valid opinion, and there's a few on here sharing it as well as some saying he played well. But every single player I've ever seen at any level has had more than one poor game. They've all had at least one shocker actually. And I include Man U, Barca and Chelsea players in that. If we judged them all on one poor game, none of them would have had a career. Hause may (or may not) have been poor the other day, but he has had 1/2 a season with Wycombe where he was touted as "head and shoulders above L2" by their fans (as an 18 y-o). Good enough that Wolves paid a decent wad of cash for him and their fans see him as a real prospect. How a player, (any player let alone a 19yo debutant), can be written off after one game I find astounding. But each to their own. I'll give him a chance myself.
Lukey, it's not about being right or wrong it's opinion just personal feeling, the truth in most cases probably lies somewhere in the middle. In the star player thread I went with Joe Martin as number 3, I never mentioned a name but suggested the defensive problem might be on the other side of the pitch at least PT seems to agree with me. http://www.kentonline.co.uk/medway/sport/hare-set-for-gills-debut-21732/
